'My name is Donald Trump, king of kings:Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'Nothing beside remains. Round the decayOf that colossal wreck, boundless and bareThe lone and level sands stretch far away.

That there are statues commemorating it is all you need to know about US history.

I did read about a toppled statue of an abolitionist in Madison Wisconsin. Guy’s name was Hans Christian Heg and seemed to be an all around good guy. One of his descendants was sad about it but said the silver lining was that people are learning more about his family’s hero. He also said he thought it was kids getting carried away and taking it too far and that he hoped the city would repair it. I remember thinking, oh shit the republicans will all whine about this guy even though they actually could give a crap.

I have been to Bakersfield more than once and it is horrible. The only good thing to come out of Bakersfield that I know of is classic country music. The good old kind, with weeping and whiskey. https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Minority Leader McCarthy:

Just now → I introduced the Protect America’s Statues Act to cut funding from cities and states that refuse to restore order.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Que PASA?

From the files of a Real Journalist from Another Reality:

McCarthy: leftwing mobs in cities across the country are destroying statues of General Grant, St. Serra, Christopher Columbus, and abolitionists. This is lawlessness in its purest and most unacceptable form.RJAR: That's interesting. Why is it, in your view, so much less acceptable to commit vandalism than to torture someone to death?

The modern GOP, ladies and gentlemen: we care more about protecting statues of dead traitors than do about protecting Americans from a deadly pandemic.

Jim Jordan? Mmm, I can figure that. He'd be right aboard this inane joyride.I'd be fully content with history eliding him.

People have said that Abraham Lincoln, sitting in front of Bascom Hall, stands whenever a virgin passes before him.

Any guesses as to how many time he has stood up?

Or the Trump administration could just send in unmarked federal officers in unmarked nongovernmental cars to grab people off the streets

To me, THAT is "lawlessness in its purest and most unacceptable form" and the opposite of "the most basic duties of government". But I'm super naive, so don't mind me.
