Sociology is said to be science for people who don't like science.

My undergrad major was Psychology. Which means that I ended up being more confused than ever.

they actually got the wolf howl story a bit wrong. While wolves do indeed howl when they miss someone, they also howl for various other reasons. Wolves will howl with others as a form of communication, supplying info on the number of them in the area and their relative location. In fact wolves will not howl on the same same pitch as others, as this makes it easier to keep the howls separated. You can make them a bit crazy if you howl with them and match their pitch, they'll keep changing theirs. Given that they will howl along with sirens, it's obvious that they're not lonely and missing the fire truck. When one wolf starts to howl, they all join in as a basic community sound off and they get quite excited when they're doing it.
