Kim Kardashian Has Helped Free 17 Prisoners In 90 Days, What Have You Done?

Make fun of her all you want, she's out there getting it done.

Kim Kardashian has had a week . First, she shows up to the Met Gala in this amazing dress based on a Sophia Loren movie that made it look like she was dripping wet when she was in fact quite dry (which designer Thierry Mugler came out of a 20-year retirement to personally spend eight months making for her), and now we're finding out that she also helped to free 17 prisoners in the last 90 days.

A woman of many moods, indeed.

The Decarceration Collective, a nonprofit law firm, announced this week that Kim K has quietly funded their 90 Days Of Freedom Campaign, allowing them to free 17 first-time non-violent drug offenders from US prisons.

"Kim Kardashian has been instrumental in funding the legal fees for vital attorney representation, transportation for newly freed prisoners so they have a ride home to their families and reentry costs related to our clients' smooth transition back into society," Lawyer MiAngel Cody , founder of the Decarceration Collective, told CBS News Tuesday. "She has supported 17 prisoners' release from prison and their ongoing decarceration."

"We are thrilled that Kim Kardashian continues to lend her voice to this important, life-saving work," said Angela Wynn, media liaison at the Decarceration Collective. "We encourage everyone to link arms to bring about transformative criminal justice."

That is awesome! Good for her! I am very serious! She did a good thing, she is helping people, and she seems truly dedicated to this cause. It is certainly a better way to spend the $1 million she gets per Instagrampost than anything else I can think of. When compared to what Paris Hilton is doing these days—which, I shit you not, is trying to promote her forthcoming single "My Best Friend's Ass" —this is pretty freaking great.

Kardashian has also used her celebrity status to manipulate Donald Trump into signing The First Step Act and commuting the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, which is probably the least terrible thing he has ever done. Kardashian is not particularly fond of him (and reportedly took some time to "educate" Kanye about how terrible Trump is when he was going through his MAGA phase), but was willing to do whatever it took to free this woman. Even if it meant having to smile during a photo-op with him.

I have never seen Keeping Up With the Kardashians (not because I'm so fabulously intellectual— I love my trash TV —I just never got around to that particular show), but as far as rich people go, I happen to like Kim K. Sure, part of it is that I am oppositional by nature and whenever it becomes the cool thing to hate on someone who isn't like, a Taylor Swift amount of evil, I start liking them more. It is my way. But she's also brought attention to issues like Armenian genocide education, and I absolutely believe that her being a famously gorgeous woman who is not Kate Moss-skinny has been a truly positive thing for American culture.

Kardashian has been so devoted to this cause (decarceration, not her not-skinniness) that she recently announced her plans to become a lawyer herself, a move that made a lot of jerks erupt into giggles. Because LOL, how can the pretty lady on the television show be lawyer smart? Her butt is big and she made that sex tape one time!

But she's pretty darn serious about it:

"I told my dad years ago that I was really into criminal justice and he was like, 'This will stress you out so much, you do not really want to take this on,' " she recalled. "I think now having gotten so deep in helping Alice [Marie Johnson], I'm really motivated to get to know the law more and fight for people who deserve a second chance like her."

"I remember in the OJ case, I would go be going through it and Kourtney would yell at me: 'Stop going through all of dad's stuff!' " she continued. "She was so upset, but I think he would be really proud of me. My dad always taught me that hard work is really important and to really commit to things, so my goal would be in like, 10 years, to give up being Kim K and just focus on this and be an attorney and fight for so many deserving people."

She plans on taking the bar exam in 2022, and I, for one, am ready for Kim Kardashian, attorney-at-law.
