Yeah I stopped listening to NPR a few years ago for the same reason. Someone here called it "Nice Polite Republicans" awhile ago and that seems fairly accurate.

Also this: <a href="http://wunc.org/back-porch-..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://wunc.org/back-porch-music">http://wunc.org/back-porch-... is basically musical poison to me, that didn't help :P

Yuck, I also gave up on NPR. When they got $200 million from Joan Kroc, I thought that might free them from the need to pander to corporate sponsors and Congressional mouthbreathers. Which I imagine is what Ms. Kroc had in mind.

Instead they built a West Coast satellite operation in order, apparently, to develop cutting-edge, politically independent programs of News & Analysis like The Kitchen Sisters.
