Sunday was a lovely day in Los Angeles, unless you were the homeless guy on downtown’s Skid Row scuffling with LAPD officers who shot and killed you while holding you down on the sidewalk. Then maybe your day was not so good. On the other hand, your death was caught on video and broadcast all over the world from a city where millions continually seek fortune and fame. Right now there are probably actors all over town growling with jealousy, so there’s that!
Referring to them as filthy dirty savages shows that you know nothing about mental illness, nor do you seem to understand the mental health infrastructure. Yes, some liberal groups, in an attempt to give mentally ill patients more rights, did screw stuff up a tad by allowing less strict committing standards, but the main problem isn't that anymore, but a lack of funding for mental health care. When one doesn't have insurance, the likelihood of a mental illness that could have been treated at the mild to moderate level , becoming severe because they have no real access to help, is higher. The same goes for regular medical problems, but mental health is far worse, and is a disgrace in this country.
Mental health is very complex and sadly not at all interesting to most journalist. And there is the issue of free will and how much capacity do people have with serious mental issues. I'm no expert, but you don't need to be to know that mental health does not receive the attention not money it deserves. Hopefully ACA requirements on mental health will help some.
Just so you know, this isn't the Yahoo! message boards. So you might want actually try READING the article before commenting on it. That way you won't feel like an embarrassed idiot when I let you know that Gary already dealt with your point. Oops!
As we now know, "He was reaching for my gun" is the standard police line for all unjustified shootings. Everyone from Amadou Diallo to Michael Brown is said to be grabbing for a cop's gun, even when they are halfway down the block, or at the other end of a hallway, or shot in the back.
We're doubling down on the Reagan mental ill plan in NY right now. Closing Group homes for the mentally ill/disabled, halfway houses, and state mental health hospitals. That's leaving them all either on the street, taking up space in short term hospitals who can't find a discharge plan, or in jail. All of which is more expensive in the long run. Andy Cuomo is not even half the governor his father was.
Maybe we should screen out people who want to become police with a simple test:True or False: I was often pantsed or otherwise made fun of in K-12True or False: I have a deep psychological need to punch down in order to feel better about myself.
I agree with your Dad. Plus, any time an unarmed civilian dies at the hands of a cop, the cop failed at his job. Said cop should, at minimum, be released back into the job pool, but hopefully investigated thoroughly first and possibly prosecuted.
Thank goodness there are no comments so we don't have to worry about trollsExcept for under the bridges that is.

Ha!
My money is on "Inexplicable malfunction."
It's like Beetlejuice, say his name three times and he appears. At least it worked for me.

Who scares you?
It's like "look out, he's coming right for us"

This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I kill people here. I'm a cop.
Didn't the Offspring have some thoughts about the LAPD way back when?
I'm going with "didn't realize a strap had blocked it".
