Okeydokey, the Senate is finally getting to the actual funding bill, not sure whether there'll be debate or remarks before they vote, but I'm unpinning the previous "whoops not yet" note about the livestream.

Marcy Wheeler got me to back off (somewhat) my own vituperative rage. Still doubt this was the best way through.

More important: RESIDENTS! I thought I imagined them! None of my friends has ever heard of them. I have everything on vinyl! Revenge of the Mole People NOW!

The only rationale I can accept can't be said out loud, it's pragmatic rather than principled. Schumer and the Dems know for certain that Twitler and SwastiKKKarMan will not stop shutting down agencies and the Republinazis will back their play. Getting a CR through won't change the Stormtrumper strategy of imploding the government. When it happens the Dem leaders can say it's all on the Rethugs, we gave them the money, they are the ones taking away your benefits and services. The Dems have no blood on their hands and can campaign 100% against reckless pro-dictatorship MAGAts. Only need to flip one chamber to get some control back. Flip the house and we are back in business with impeachment. Easier to do if the Dems are the party of reason and compromise and the Returds are hair on fire anarchists.

Since the Republicans won't negotiate in good faith, the Democrats decided to cave. Why would Republicans ever agree to anything reasonable? Their starting and ending point is "We're going to behave like comic-book villains; either you make yourselves complicit with us, or we burn the country to the ground." Here's the kicker: they're going to burn the country to the ground anyway. Any time you hear someone formulating a sentence like, "But if we don't do X, Republicans will do something bad, or blame us for Y," realize that the formulator has failed to understand something fundamental about the Republican Party. They are ALWAYS fixing to do something unconscionable, and when it goes south, they are ALWAYS going to blame the Democrats for it, no matter the circumstances. You cannot appease these malicious, lying, sadistic assholes.

"Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) announced yesterday that he’ll vote today to pass the Republicans’ awful spending bill, arguing that bad though the continuing resolution is, allowing a government shutdown would be far worse."

Schumer is proving himself more and more as a spineless jellyfish. His capitulation to the budgetary wonts of the Fulvous Fuckwad is the exact opposite of what is to be expected from a minority leader, in the House or the Senate. Schumer is failing to recall one of the most important lessons learned on school playgrounds: if you give in to a bully, the bully will see it (rightly) as a sign of weakness and will increase his asshattery to account for the exposed wimpiness. If you stand up and fight back, in almost every situation the bully will back down.

Anecdotally, in Jr High I was a target of a bully. After my father had had his fill of my bitching he gave me sound advise. The next time the bully came at me I hauled off and gave him a swift hard kick to the 'nads. Not only was I freed from further harassment, the asshole even tried to befriend me -- unsuccessfully I might add.

-----

"We like the big cardboard “eyeball” signs, a reminder that everybody is watching Senate Democrats to see how they vote today"

The rank and file Dems need to take a page out of the MAGA playbook: any Dem who gives in to the RINOs should... no, must... be primaried out of office. (This also applies to every member of the Congressional Democratic Geriatric Caucus.)

-----

"As we noted yesterday, a shutdown might at least offer Democrats a chance to force concessions that might rein Trump in."

Like yesterday, I have no illusions as to the end result should the Dems try and force *any* concessions from Mooseballs Mussolini, the end result will be the same as if they signed off on the CR as is. The Mango Malignancy will promise anything he wants to knowing that if he doesn't feel like honoring the agreement he won't. His agreement to anything put forth by the Dems is as good as the air on which he wrote them.

-----

"If the CR passes, that also means Republicans in Congress, having abandoned their power of the purse"

IDK why the RINOs are of the mind that they can rewrite the Constitution via legislation. They can't. The asshats are giving over the power of the purse in direct violation of the Constitution:

> "U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 9, clause 7

Congress—and in particular, the House of Representatives—is invested with the “power of the purse,” the ability to tax and spend public money for the national government." https://history.house.gov/Institution/Origins-Development/Power-of-the-Purse/

As far as I can see, there is nothing there that says the House can abrogate this responsibility should they so choose. The only way they can achieve this is through amendments, and it is extremely difficult to accomplish (as can be observed by the fact that in ~250 years there have been only 27 Amendments that have been ratified, or ask supporters of the ERA).

-----

"Senate Democrats should be willing to demand an end to Trump’s unconstitutional crime spree, or let Republicans, who are already wildly unpopular, face the consequences of a shutdown"

"We always get the blame. Name one time that we’ve shut the government down and we haven’t got the blame." Rep Mike Simpson (R-Idaho)

-----

"a number of Senate Democrats seemed willing to agree to vote for cloture in exchange for the chance to bring up amendments for a vote"

I can't grok how anyone who made it in politics to become a Senator can be so naïve. Do they *really* believe that if they vote for cloture the Senate RINOs will consider any Dem amendments? You can bet your bippy that once cloture is enacted the Senate RINOs will pass the House version -- unamended -- on a straight party line vote.

Breaking news:

"The Senate has voted to advance a spending bill to keep the government open despite the majority of Democrats objecting to the legislation as an overly partisan bill.

All but one Republican senator, Rand Paul voted for the bill, along with nine Democrats, which proved to be enough to break a filibuster." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/senate-clears-path-to-avoid-a-government-shutdown-despite-democratic-opposition/ar-AA1AWUj3

Time to warm up the primary machine and deal with these nine very fine Senate Dems.

That whole idea that FFOTUS can ignore Congress's appropriations is just so goddamned constitutional that we should want it to go to the SCOTUS ( even tho' that would probably mean they would uphold it ).

As Dubya once said, "It's just a goddamned piece of paper!" - and FFOTUS and the GOP are proving it
