It’s hard to pick which of those three legendary musicians is the best. Ronstadt has the best pipes, imho. She could sing with a range and vocal power few ever have. I’m not a deep catalogue expert on Linda, but I have always loved Different Drum by Linda and the Stone Poneys. It was a very early hit for her and an unusual song written by Michael Nesmith of The Monkeys. Stevie Nicks has a remarkable, unique and iconic voice and stage presence. I’ve seen her twice in concert when Fleetwood Mac was together after releasing Say You Will. Carole King has written a gozillion songs and has a voice to match her songwriting talent. Her hits are well known, but she deserved an Oscar for scoring Murphy’s Romance in 1985.
And all three are beautiful people. Well, four. Everyone knows Robyn is. :)
If my husband's infatuation with Ronstadt is anything to go by, I suspect a lot of Boomer men fell in love with her because of her Hasten Down the Wind album cover. 😉 Of course, her gorgeous voice didn't hurt.
Yep. She was a stunner, but also had that smart, independent vibe. She was (is) a baddass. She dated a very young Jim Carrey in 1983 or so for a few months. She was 37, he was 21. She met him at a comedy club and he asked her out. She was surprised, but accepted. Carrey said their relationship was short, but special. He said she was an amazing person and told him he would be a huge star one day. She wasn’t wrong.
The main thing I know about Linda Ronstadt is that Philip K. Dick was obsessed with her and wrote a version of her as a main character in _The Divine Invasion_
I had the great honor of playing guitar for her opening act (Livingston Taylor) on her "Living in the Usa" tour summer of '78. Every night for a month she got up there and nailed every goddamn note.
I was more or less a Year Zero punk rocker in '77 and was all "fuck all that old people music, particularly that LA mellow shit." Even so, I still had a warm spot in my heart for Linda Ronstadt. Damn, she could sing, and she looked amazing while doing it.
My two favourite lady singers in those bygone pre-deafness days were Grace Slick and Patti Smith. Neither of them seems to like the Quisling, either; good on them!
Grace was interviewed in April of this year by the Library of Congress, and said in it, "There are people I don’t like: Donald Trump is one of them." The short interview had no mention of rfkjr.
I am fast approaching my 66th birthday, which means that I have been madly in love with Linda Ronstadt for over 50 years. And she still manages to fascinate and inspire me. We may have the perfect relationship, who can say...
The worst camping trips I ever had were with the Boy Scouts, stinky tents, bad food, cold and wet and too much supervision.
Of course I was spoiled as my parents were semi-professional campers, at least every other weekend my dad would dip out early from work and we'd be showered and packed and as soon as he got home we'd head out to some campground within a 200 mile radius and spend the weekend in the woods, mountains or desert.
If I were to read anywhere that Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Janis Ian, Bonnie Raitt, Bette Midler, Cher or Emmylou Harris had voiced support for TFG I would not believe it. Nobody would believe it. If I saw them live saying they supported TFG, I would know for sure that aliens had kidnapped them and replaced them with android clones.
I had the good fortune to see her in concert last year and reading between the lines of her onstage conversation with the audience I can assert that she hasn't been abducted by aliens.

I remember a baseball player talking about a "Linda Ronstadt fastball": you know, "Blew By You"

(goes to Google) Ohhhhhh, *that* one. Yeah, that had quite the impact on me as a teenaged male.

I am constantly amazed by the Wonkers round these parts. What a story!
She was always a music perfectionist.

Are you sure about Grace Slick? She's such a contrarian that I wouldn't be surprised that she was on Team RFKjr.

Oh, good.
I don't think the queen, Janis Joplin, would care much for him either!
Janis expired well before anyone (except, conceivably, then-KGB man Vladi Putin,) had heard of the Orange Quisling, but I doubt she'd have loved him.
“….but I don’t think I love Linda Ronstadt in quite the same way that men of a certain age love Linda Ronstadt.”
Ooo. I feel so seen right now.
If Laura Nyro was still here, she'd be in on this too.

Tonsorial, as well.

Young adult me must insist that Boy Scout outfit of hers receive full consideration and appreciation.

Now THAT is a Den mother!
(Blue is for Cub Scouts)
D'oh! I knew that! I was a Cub Scout for a short while until I realized my troupe wasn't into all the outdoors-y stuff I was told scouts do.

I‘d bet you can add Brandi Carlile to that list as well!

Ta, Robyn. When we met (WonkMeet in lower Manhattan) I did not think you looked like Linda Ronstadt, but you most definitely had Ronstadt hair.
Her closing paragraph is brilliant:
“Trump first ran for President warning about rapists coming in from Mexico. I'm worried about keeping the rapist out of the White House.”
On a side note, I loved the documentary CNN did on her in 2019 (Linda Ronstadt: The Sound Of My Voice). Now, I must watch it again.
Terrific documentary.
