OT, but on the plus side:

Do people actually *eat* at the WHCD?

I saw Biden tear apart a bread roll and take a bite but that environment has got to be one of the most unappealing situations in which to have a meal. Plus the food was probably awful.

SkeptiKC's avatar

I'm not inclined to believe that those seated at the VIP table have the opportunity to do much in the way of eating, but for the record I did observe Vice President Kamala Harris seated next to I believe Trevor Noah enjoying a few small mouthfuls of her supper.

It's not too likely that the food served at this event is gourmet, either. I'm sure it's better than most banquet fare, but nothing prepared in mass quantities is ever particularly high quality.

"M"'s avatar

DO IT HUNTER! DO IT!

Lawyers for Hunter Biden plan to sue Fox News β€˜imminently’

A letter obtained by NBC News says action is pending because of Fox’s alleged β€œconspiracy and subsequent actions to defame Mr. Biden and paint him in a false light.”

Lawyers for Hunter Biden plan to sue Fox News β€œimminently,” according to a letter sent to the network and obtained by NBC News.

The letter, dated April 23, puts the Fox News Channel and Fox News Digital on notice for litigation claims arising from the network’s alleged β€œconspiracy and subsequent actions to defame Mr. Biden and paint him in a false light, the unlicensed commercial exploitation of his image, name, and likeness, and the unlawful publication of hacked intimate images of him.”

Biden has hired attorney Mark Geragos and his firm to represent him in the Fox litigation efforts. The letter is the second outreach to Fox this month. An earlier letter was hand-delivered to Fox’s counsel two weeks ago, and the network asked for more time to respond, according to a source familiar with Biden’s legal efforts. The network has not yet responded to the letter sent April 23, which included a Friday evening, April 26, deadline to respond, according to Geragos. The letter is signed by Tina Glandian, a partner at Geragos & Geragos working on the case.

Fox News did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The new threat of litigation comes almost a year after Fox News agreed to pay almost $800 million to Dominion Voting Systems to settle defamation claims related to Fox’s airing of election fraud claims in the 2020 election. Fox News also agreed to a $12 million settlement with a former employee who alleged she was pressured to provide misleading information as part of the Dominion case.

Fox is currently facing a $2.7 billion lawsuit brought by Smartmatic, another voting system company that was the focus of Fox News coverage, as well as suits brought by shareholders against directors of the company for allowing the channel to air the allegations during its 2020 election coverage. Fox said in its latest financial disclosures that it will contest the lawsuits, but acknowledges that there could be a β€œmaterial” adverse impact on the company’s business and financial position.

Apparently

a) she thinks she's guilty,

and

b) at her law school they don't cover concurrent sentencing

Peter Navarro whining about spending four months in prison is the *real* crisis of masculinity.

ciaobella's avatar

Good.

Now why is Bannon still walking free after being convicted for the SAME FUCKING CRIME

TalentNotAutotune's avatar

He's gonna go to prison. In fact, I think at about this point Bannon is wishing he'd just surrendered last year and gotten his time out of the way. Every day he wakes up he knows he's one day closer to prison.

It reminds me of an American kid that got caught painting graffiti in Singapore and was sentenced to a caning. The thing is, they put you in jail but don't tell you which day you're gonna get caned. Every day, the guards walk by and look at you and you wonder "IS THIS THE DAY?"

Except it isn't. They keep this up for two or three weeks and then you finally get the caning. The kid said the nervousness of wondering every day if today is the day was way, way worse than actually getting caned.

BradtheπŸ€–'s avatar

His appeal is in May; his judge let him roam free until then.

Supreme Court Puppet Master's Consulting Firm Clients Exposed in Leak

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/supreme-court-leonard-leo-crc-advisors-leak-1235011906/

Leonard Leo's consulting firm has worked for the Koch network and a group pushing the Supreme Court to block a billionaire tax.

Russell Jones's avatar

When I first heard about this, I tried to figure out who in the current majority might be amenable to crackhead internet whackjob arguments about the 16th Amendment not being validly ratified and the feds having no power to tax income absent the 16th. That's not necessary, though, as they can just say the Constitution confers no power to tax wealth.
