OT: One thing I haven't seen mentioned around here is that Roger Corman died last, um, Thursday, I think it was.

He was an extremely pleasant guy in person. One time my eldest daughter and I met him at a book signing. It wasn't too well attended, and they chatted at length while I monitored from a distance. They suddenly seemed to be negotiating a movie deal involving a castle somewhere in the Balkans, till she told him that she was fourteen. He grinned and told her that they could talk about it again in a few years, but it wouldn't be for the same movie. He used those up at high speed. He gave her his card at the end of their chat, and it all looked like they got on famously. When she did turn 18, though, she was working hard at being a sculptor, instead....

RIP, Roger Corman. Sorry to see you go.

Why the rent is too damn high - Landlords are all using the same price recommendation software, effectively turning the real estate market into an illegal cartel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwlwrZst7d0&t=0s&ab_channel=OllyRichards

Bradthe🤖's avatar

We had to fill out paperwork for our son’s disability, and one of the requirements was the value of the room and board we provide.

We used Zillow, which said the current rental price was about $800 a month more than what something like this actually rents for (until the landlords all raise the rent to match that number, I guess).

SunMoonStars's avatar

Private equity firms are buying them and changing the entire landscape. Jarhead is doing the same. Show me anything the rich fucks don't fuck up and steal from the poor. Their entire premise is to get rid of the poor and middle class. We are too low brow for the assholes.

Enter Ranting's avatar

There's nothing tech bros won't fuck up for us to make a buck.

Anzu's avatar

They're now getting a criminal probe from the DoJ for their troubles, apparently. Turns out "having a machine do something that is illegal does not make it suddenly more legal than if it was a human being doing it."

The landlords who use the service are almost universally told a higher value, never a lower one, and coached to blame "current market rates" when they raise their rent every year. They are also checked upon by spies who tattle on them if they go lower than the recommended "market rate" and will be dropped as a client if they don't use the recommended rates.

There are lawsuits in progress by 2 states and DC right now, and another 25+ state AGs are starting to build out a case.

How soon before a Republican steps in front of a camera and takes credit for the infrastructure project he voted against?

3, 2, 1.....

SunMoonStars's avatar

Was reading something similar but from voters. One when asked what he thought about all the new construction going on in his state that provided him a job with long term security. He said it's great he can't believe how much is going on. He was asked who is responsible for giving him all this and he said Biden.

Then asked who he is voting for....wait for it....the orange fucking moron. He likes how it talks to people, putting them down, acting all tough.

They are too far up the cults ass to understand how fucking stupid they are.

Are Michigan Democrats still on the Biden train?

Not this suburban mom whose hobbies include ceramics using a special color only available from Gazan manufacturers.

“I mean abortion is an important issue but I can only get that color of blue from one place and Joe Biden doesn’t care” lamented Stacy Maidupawitz, mother of 3

Mavenmaven's avatar

Wait, is that a real name? That sounds like a joke name we would have made up in high school, as "dupa" in Slavic languages means "butt", so the name "My Butt-owitz" would have been hilarious where I grew up, if the name wasn't "made up owitz"

Hey NYT! She’s not a registered Democrat (or voter at all) in Michigan!

That so much of it is entirely willful and deliberate drives a person to contemplate some felonious methods of vindication.

Apparently Cohen is the last witness for the prosecution.

R. Riddle's avatar

I wonder who, besides Trump himself, the defense could call to the witness stand.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

I think that supposes an actual strategy beyond 1. Deny everything. B. Attack every witness.

Which I don't think exists. If it did then Stormy wouldn't have been allowed as a witness because the defense wouldn't have even mentioned her in their opening.

R. Riddle's avatar

It's the defense strategy the client wants and so surely deserves.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

He truly is the biglyist legal brain of a generation.

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

Cohen. The defense is going to cross the shit out of Cohen, playing on the fact that he perjured himself in the past, etc...they will get all the mileage they can off of Cohen.

Anzu's avatar

"Yeah, I was an unscrupulous asshole, which is why your client hired me. I fully admitted to all of my crimes I did ON HIS BEHALF and I'm trying to turn over a new leaf here, because I'm sick of being his patsy."

I just read that my town is getting close to $1M in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to get our new library (a repurposed building) and community center, which finally passed the town vote this March with the 60% needed. The building currently in use was built in 1972 when the town had 1800 people and of course has grown to 5 times that population.

Thank you Joe Biden and Chris Sununu, shitbird that you can be, recommended this to the Fiscal Committee and so, because mama raised me right, thank you.
