Every time Orange Foolius writes about or talks about E. Jean Carroll, Roberta Kaplan should file a lawsuit. Obviously, the $83.5 million dollar verdict has done nothing to shut his pie hole or stop his fingers.

One of zillions of reasons not to vote for RFK Junior β€œThere were heroes in the Confederacy who didn’t have slaves and, you know, I just, I just have a visceral reaction against destroying history. I don’t like it. I think we should celebrate who we are.” Uh, it was the Confederate Daughters who destroyed history by whitewashing (literally and figuratively) the history of the war and its causes. Even if some Confederate soldiers thought they were just defending their homes, they still sided with slavery - they should have overthrown the slaveowning oligarchs who dragged the South into war purely out of greed.

He is so ignorant. If you were a small landowner, the plantation owners would lease you a slave just to make you complicit. It was nearly universal across the South.

I didn’t know that - I assumed that small landowners and other whites who weren’t wealthy favored slavery because they didn’t want to be at the bottom of the social hierarchy.

Go back far enough and EVERYONE has ancestors who did terrible things. I don't get why people get all defensive about that... Amen to that. Some of my ancestors owned slaves. I've seen the plantation houses and the slave cabins. But I'm not them and I think differently from them. I abhor slavery but it happened and there is no excuse for covering it up. And I can't pick my ancestors, any more than I could have picked my parents. But I can choose what values I believe in and who I associate with.

I suspect that white Americans who believe that slaveowning guilt is inheritable are the same ones who believe that modern Jews somehow bear the guilt for Jesus being crucified.

Yeah I do actually, it's called working with your allies and getting people into negotiating position. And also recognizing that when you're dealing with sovereign nations there's complicated negotiations to do. But you work with your *team* not people who want to burn everything down. Because I *guarantee* you when everything burns down, the people who started the trouble or benefit from it most won't be hurt.

Positive change is slow. It takes a lot of time if you do it right. But organizing *constructively* is the way. Let the opposition be the assholes.

There were people who thought violent direct action was the way in the 1960s to help the cause of Black folk. All it got us was more redlining, greater reprisals, and then a vacuum for illegal drugs to be funneled into our communities and wreck them further. We still have suffering from that to this day even as our wealth cratered through many Republican administrations (the Democrats actually built up Black income in the past 30 years).

Accordingly the 10/7 attack was STUPID STUPID STUPID. If you do some out-of-line shit like those attacks under the banner of a people who are already oppressed and then not only that, you kill people who were your allies in those attacks (like at the music festival). Now *they* look like assholes for supporting you, you look like assholes because you mainly targeted civilians. And then on top of this bad actors can hijack your protests and broadcast common cause with assholes. So then the chaos agents can have your goal of stopping the famine and reprisal against innocent Palestinians subsumed to their "River to the sea" shit, or just "Israel is Bad!"

If, say, 10/7 was just attacks on a military base? That wouldn't have looked so bad.

Like, can you imagine ifβ€”right after 9/11β€”a large number of campus protestors decided to say "Al Qaeda was right" in the United States and lay out Al Qaeda's grievances. Nobody would listen and it would just steel the resolve of the USA. Indeed the USA steeled its resolve and reelected Dumbya.

Then again 10/7 isn't so stupid if you want to cause chaos in the West, since Israel is a sovereign nation, and this is also useful to get a good friend of authoritarians into office in the USA too. I mean it's stupid if you want the actual goal of Palestinian freedom. It's actually great if you want to cause chaos and ensure even more reprisals for the foreseeable future.

My imaginary summary of closing arguments in Manhattan.

Defense: "I'm just an Unfrozen Caveman lawyer. Sometimes the honking horns of your Manhattan traffic make me want to get out of my BMW ... and run off into the hills, or wherever."

Prosecution: "Defendant had his hands in the cookie jar, and we have photographic evidence, and eye witness testimony from scads of people. Also, tire tracks, spy sat imagery, all on 8x10 glossies with a paragraph on the back. Don't listen to this sloped forehead defense attorney. He's a knuckle dragger."
