My question remains: when will the Democratic party adopt rank choice voting?

Formerly disgruntled in Oregon's avatar

For which elections? Which elections are conducted by the Democratic Party? Aren’t most election rules set by states, localities, and the feds?

TheGreatAndPowerfulMormos!'s avatar

They could add it to the party platform

She didn't call on Reek! Oh, how disappointing, I was looking forward to a defenestration of the smarmy prick.

Not meeeee

The less we hear from Reek the better

Especially unless he's considering turning back into Theon

Haven't seen that so far

Talking to my older sister earlier and she volunteered this little bit of information: She and her husband will not vote for loser this year even though they did in 2016 and 2020.

I was shocked.

Great news! Sounds like progress to me!

The more "supporters of Donald" who stay home the better

YK, as a practical, tactical matter, not necessarily as an actual democratic one

It's a deep red state here but I guess it clears their conscience.

It demonstrates that everyone has the capacity to learn and evolve, if you will.

They will inspire others around them who are perhaps too afraid to act independently, pun not intended.

Old white guy power reaches its limits:

A federal D.C. judge on Thursday denied ex-Trump adviser Peter Navarro’s bid to stay out of prison while he appeals his recent contempt of Congress conviction for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison last month after being convicted in September on two counts of contempt of Congress — one for failing to produce documents related to the probe and another for skipping his deposition.

Federal judge Amit Mehta dismissed Mister Navarro’s arguments that the prosecution was political with this: “Defendant’s cynical, self-serving claim of political bias poses no question at all, let alone a ‘substantial’ one.”

And there being no substantial questions of law remaining, Mister Navarro was ordered to report to prison at the direction of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Navarro has no one to blame but himself.

Of course, being a member of the party of "personal responsibility", he has tried blaming just about everyone else.

SkeptiKC's avatar

Cry harder, Convict Navarro.

I hate the US private prison system. Thus I find it damned satisfying to watch one of the mouthpieces that's supported it wince miserably from a drafty cell within one.

I can be a vindictive bitch.

I don’t know that that's so much "vindictiveness"

Or use his attorney because Steve is still walking around outside of prison.

There IS an upside to Trump being on the ballot. He drives turnout by Dems and Dem-leaners. Sure, the minority MAGA crowd, too, but as the old union saying goes: In numbers there is strength. Believe it or not, a LOT of voters are going in to vote AGAINST someone, not necessarily for their pick. I've done it for decades. Call it angry voting.

Cat: "And fuck this thing in particular." The cat has a point.

Biden is doing so well that he has republicans shitting in their own tv-dinners. But the media has to make it a close game.

V4Virginia's avatar

I think it's more of a distraction than anything. He's gonna be on that ballot, anyway, after SCROTUS is finished. We just need to kick his proverbial diaper-butt in November.

paperlesstiger's avatar

It certainly says something that SCOTUS has to force the states to put the bastard on the ballot.

SkeptiKC's avatar

Was it Roberts who had the audacity to assert that it was not the court's responsibility to make that determination?

Just who in the hell else is there at this insidious point?

"M"'s avatar

He built in a mechanism for all the justices and other officials Under His Eye to be able to avoid responsibility by writing the majority opinion on the utterly fallacious keystone "The United States doesn't have racism anymore" in Shelby County v Holder in 2013.

And I remain incredibly distressed how few people who claim to believe in democracy even know anything about that

If Trump can stage a coup and still be eligible for president then what’s to stop Biden from staging his own coup should Trump win?

Mike_Cramer's avatar

Please. Biden would roll over like a dog and pat himself on the back for being magnanimous. It's what Clinton did to the militia kooks after the Oklahoma City massacre. It's what Obama did when faced with the Tea Party and their obvious fascism. No, just like all libs when faced with a potentially violent situation, Biden will piss himself, then give a "fiery" speech about how letting Trump have the win is good for country, will prevent civil war, will heal our national divisions and usher in a new age of glorious bipartisanship and compromise even as he's being dragged to the firing squad.

I fail to see the fucking hysteria about this Colorado case. Listening to the judges it seems pretty obvious that they are dubious. Screeching from supporters on both sides is completely irrelevant. And their motherfucking stupid ass polls. They're going to bring poor Rachel on tonight to hump that dead chicken some more. JFC. Be very sure that this is just another excuse to put rage yam on TV for 24 hours straight. They would deny it, but they would be lying.

I have thought the 14th amendment was the wrong strategy. I would go with if, on Jan 1 of the election year, you owe money to any government agency in the state from a previous election cycle, then your name cannot be printed in any ballot of that year. E.g. paying up on Jan 2 would not let your name be printed on the Nov ballot.

There can be no arguing about owing money or not because there are receipts.

It's also reasonable to expect a campaign to close out debts by the next election cycle
