I do believe they have all underestimated how many Americans are furious about the Tiktok shenanigans and have also completely lost whatever faith they had in our government due to the perceived inaction on the Palestinian genocide and the overall slide into christofascism.

OT is Devin Nunes really smart or really stupid? This is either a fantastic bluff or the most idiotic move ever. The stock has been trending back up despite its complete lack of value and you want to see who’s manipulating it??

Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes on Tuesday urged House Republican committee leaders to investigate possible "unlawful manipulation" of the company's stock.

Nunes, himself a former House GOP chair, in a letter asked them to probe "anomalous trading" of the stock in order to gauge the extent of the alleged manipulation and "whether any laws including RICO statutes and tax evasion laws were violated."

Expand full comment

So Congress is investigating why a particular stock isn’t doing well, causing that stock to shoot upwards, and oh by the way it happens to be funding their nominee. Who’s manipulating what now?

I would check account receivable for purchases from the Prince Bone Saw Saudi fund.

Indeed. Someone's propping up that stock and it's not small-time rubes.

Expand full comment

Hmm, Congress poking it's nose into the stock market sounds entertaining. I wonder, how all of that Wall Street money will react? Will those folk be happy to sit in front of James Comer answering stupid questions about their transactions?

Nunes won't be cowed on this. If there is self-damaging blather to be blathered, then dagnabbit he's the one to do it.

He and his boss think this is being done by Democrats. Probably Soros. Because stupid as fuck.

I'm amazed that there are still many on the left who watched Biden offer the GOP everything it wanted in a border bill, watched the Republican-written bill (predictably) fail in the GOP conference, then watched the White House get pretty much everything it wanted in Ukraine funding, and think the outcomes are coincidental, accidental, or unrelated.

This WH staff boasts some of the savviest political operators we've seen since FDR's day. While I don't think they necessarily expected Trump to overtly sabotage Lankford's bill, I've no doubt they'd already counted snouts, and knew the House would reject it. Johnson got his show-vote, and the WH got Johnson on board a Ukraine effort.

Joe is still old, though.

*This WH staff boasts some of the savviest political operators we've seen since FDR's day.*

*sigh* Look... snark aside, you guys really have to get a lot more cynical about what happens in the White House. Going from Ron Klain to Jeff Zients as Chief of Staff represented a massive rightward sea-change for this administration. The IRA, the Infrastructure Bill, the American Rescure Plan, that was all under Ron Klain's watch. Since then, the WH has given up all pretense of ambition and embraced right wing stances on everything from immigration to foreign policy.

There's no reason to believe that the White House wasn't being 100% good-faith in its attempt to pass that draconian border bill, especially in a Washington that fetishizes bipartisanship. It's only after it failed did the post-hoc rationalizations of "Oh, they were being so cheeky, knowing it would fail...!" come out. People like Zients really believe this stuff. His motto is "Execute, execute, execute!" for a reason.

Just some comments on other sites' reporting on the aid package making it through the house. People who are like "Yeah, now that we've got Johnson actually doing stuff, let's get that done," who clearly have no idea what was actually in the bill, or why it was politically useful to have Republicans shoot down the most conservative immigration legislation in decades.

OT: Anyone else tracking the arguments in the Idaho EMTALA case? Because I have been surprised a couple of times. This might not go the way the misogynists want it to go.

If SCOTUS rules against Idaho, Biden can go “These measures are so extreme that they couldn’t get past the conservative court that overturned Roe.”

If SCOTUS rules for Idaho, the White House can say “Extremist Republicans are perfectly happy to murder your mother, wife, or daughter.”

The object is to get them to deny it.
