Don't stress yourself. There are plenty of comfortable Wonketteers that have yet to pony up. Myself included.

This isn’t a beg for money, but for a bit of attention.

The CARES Act passed with language that exempts all adult dependents from stimulus checks. That means that NEETs like myself get hosed, sure, but it also hurts any college kids that have moved out in the last six months, it hurts anyone with a disabled relative they care for, it hurts people that act as caregivers to their elderly relatives.

The NY Daily News had an op-ed that posits this wasn’t even done intentionally—no congresspeople mentioned adult dependents on the floor at all, apparently—but was the result of cut-and-paste from a different section of the tax code where such a carve-out is less arbitrary and cruel.

I’m bereft over getting nothing when I’d thought I was about to get a bit of respite from being completely broke. I know two college kids who basically had nervous breakdowns last night because they found out that they didn’t qualify for COVID checks despite living on their own and desperately needing the money.

Is there any chance that Wonkette can try to get a comment from, like, literally any policymaker that might give a shit?

Luke 21 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

I'm just an old hippie that cleaned up well enough to cash in on some of that white male privilege. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't pass some of it around to my brothers and sisters.
