'So what happens in this room here?' Enjoy this Wonkette Holiday Classic recipe all over again, as though The Gipper was still wandering around somewhere. Whatever the hell "monkey bread" might be -- something racist, we assume -- it was the thing our favorite first lady Nancy Reagan was known to "cook," at Thanksgiving or whatever. For America, and for Ronnie! Delight the people at the Holiday Table with this splendid treat.
To be fair, her recipe is really nothing more than a shitty recipe for brioche. And honestly, even Ronnie seems good compared to the current resident. OK, maybe not good.
I read a little on Nancy's life in "The Invisible Bridge," by Rick Perlstein, and she was a heck of a lot less sweet and innocent than she let on. But that's why they were perfect for each other.
In his opinion, Garbis recognized judicial deference is typically “owed to military personnel decisions.” But he declined to apply that deference here in light of the fact that the president tweeted the ban with no “policy review” or “evidence demonstrating” that it “was necessary for any legitimate national interest.” Instead, Garbis agreed with Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who blocked the ban in October, that “the decision to exclude transgender individuals was not driven by genuine concerns regarding military efficacy.” ...Garbis also adopted Kollar-Kotelly’s reasoning with regard to the plaintiff’s equal protection claim, ruling that heightened scrutiny applies to government discrimination against transgender people. To satisfy heightened scrutiny, the government must put forth an “exceedingly persuasive justification” for its discrimination, which it has not done here. In fact, Garbis noted, the government could not even “survive a rational review,” the most deferential form of judicial scrutiny.“The lack of any justification for the abrupt policy change,” he wrote, “combined with the discriminatory impact to a group of our military service members who have served our country capably and honorably, cannot possibly constitute a legitimate governmental interest.”Garbis also evaluated the ban under due process principles, noting that an “executive action” may unlawfully deprive individuals of their constitutional liberty when it is “so egregious” and “so outrageous” as to “shock the conscience.” While that’s a very high standard, Garbis asserted that Trump’s ban surpassed it.
Ah, the Reagan years. Whatever happened to that comic strip Phoebe's Place?
"Iran-Contra was such a scandal! Thank God George Bush has surrounded himself with intelligent people!"Cut to Oval Office. Bush, Dan Quayle, and Gumby."No, no Dan . . . Gorby. I wanted a summit with Gorby."
I'm getting ready to travel to Texas for the traditional Thanksgiving day WTF Riot. We're taking the daughter for the first time. Last night I had to explain to her that just because someone makes violent death threats to someone else, that doesn't mean they don't love each other. Thank god it's not my year to make bail for everyone.
While the dough rises, aren't you supposed to go out and cut down some trees for polluting all that whiffy, nasty fresh air? Just wondering.
Hey Ken!!!
But my astrologer said that with Mars in retrograde, it's a bad time to make any simian-inspired yeast breads.
Sorry, I already made Pumpkin-Cranberry Bread and Nantucket-style Cranberry Pie.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, detainees at Guantanamo Bay are being fed nothing but Susan Stamberg's cranberry relish.
Ken Layne is back from his wanderings in the desert? It's a Thanksgiving Miracle!
Shouldn't this recipe have some ketchup? For the nutritional value.
Meanwhile in Gobbler's Nest, Fla the kids prepare the entree.

Poor turkeys! One vote away from becoming our national bird (*somewhat appropriate, huh?) and instead must endure attempts at genocide annually. SAD.

Ha! I doubt it, but it does give me a little tingly sensation (not *there* you pervs) whenever his byline pops up (again, not *there* you pervs).
