Ooh the clown is leaving LA? Right. Wake me up when the fast food chains pack up and leave California because they are losing money there. I'll enjoy my nap.
The disparity between billionaires and everyone else has been turning America into a version of Czarist Russia, with peasants toiling and starving at the bottom, a very few able to afford necessities, an even smaller number of 'middile class', and a very few Boyars at the top.
How many billions can one billionaire individual, or one extended family of Billionaires like the Waltons, spend in three generations? Their wealth is stagnant, just sitting around hoping to grow in bank interest or stock market growth, never truly helping to grow the economy. In contrast, Bill Gates and his ex wife knew about excess stagnant wealth early on, so began setting up foundations to spend their excess wealth on the good of the community. Despite giving away hundreds of millions, they have never lacked for anything, and remain richer than most people, even other billionaires. Even a guy like Larry Ellison who spends millions and millions on super yachts is at least running his wealth back into the economy, paying wages, paying suppliers, paying the myriad of people necessary to design and operate large private yachts.
There is no reason for anyone in America to have to grow fat eating processed fast food just because they have to work two jobs and don't have time, money, and access to good food to feed their ever-more-obese children. Meanwhile, Big Food continues to sell unhealthy poison advertised as nutritious foods. Kids eat and drink sugar and over-processed foods morning noon and night. Big Food hides their culpability in the obesity epidemic, just as Big Tobacco hid their culpbility in the cancer-causing effects of tobacco for so many years.
Confiscatory taxation AND random Purge days, when it is open season on oligarchs. If they all flee, well, what were they contributing to the health and well being of the country, anyway? Just be sure to price those exit visas sky high. You don't want to live here any more? Dandy, you just can't take your ill-gotten pelf with you.
Poor Robyn doesn't seem to understand that it is essential to the American Way of Life that THOSE PEOPLE serve good, white Christian Americans for slave wages so they can throw their entitled tantrums that their $4 hamburgers only have two pickles instead of three and that it took the uppity serving class two while minutes to bag their grease-on-a-bun.
Seriously, that's what Trumpys are all pissed off about once you slice away all the extraneous bullshit. The white middle class is ENTITLED to a servile underclass and they'll burn the whole damn country down to the ground if they can't have it.
I don't like pickles on a burger, myself, but it's really stupid to complain when they're so easy to take off. But for some reason, the problem with a Karenburger is more likely to be pickles than anything else, it seems.
Look at grocery and convenience store shelves and what do we see? Sugar water, colored sugar water, carbon dioxide fizzy colored flavored sugar water. Then there are shelves full of salty chips, which make us want to drink more sugary colored water. We get sugary cereals, and fast-food-in-a-can. In the refrigerated and frozen sectrions there is more sugary stuff, tiny bags of meat that eventually cost more than the best steaks, all because off the convenience of the portions sucked into vacuum plastic. It is almost impossible for ordinary people to figure out what unhealthy stuff goes into the foods on sale. Americans get fat while thinking they are eating healthy; and BIG FOOD PROFITS ENORMOUSLY.
McDonald's food prices went up 40% since 2018. That's 6 years before they were forced to pay people $20 an hour in California. Maybe they could have saved up all that extra profit for the hard times of paying people a living wage. Corporate whining is so shrill.
My old man worked lots of double-time-and-a-half overtime shifts. When snow falls, you have to plow it. But the point of 2.5x overtime was more than fabulously compensating workers for odd hours and missed Thanksgivings.
More than that, 2.5x overtime was a powerful economic incentive to management to hire more workers.
Yeah, if you can't afford to pay your workers, either your business model sucks ass, or your business model is just not viable in the area you are trying to do business.
Happy for the workers!

Ta, Robyn. Very well said.
Slavery is never far from the minds of business owners. They hate to pay the people who makes the things they sell that makes them rich.

Weird, that sub is only about $1.50 more than near me, and our minimum wage is $10.33. Hmmm....
This utopia of increased wages is sure to kick in after I retire in a few years.

Weird, my problem is always 8 billion too many pickles. I’ve never tried to specify the number of pickles though.

Let me just say forcing any group of unrelated people to associate for 40-plus hours a week is a recipe for homicide, or the basis for a French play.
That soda and chips cost the Jersey Mike's guy about 60 cents and he is selling for $6. Boohoo.
Yeah, it’s hard to feel bad for the restaurant when they sell a nickel worth of soda for four dollars

and have you ever heard of a business owner smart enough to work that out?
They must be constantly reminded.
It's remarkable that when the CEO gets a multimillion dollar raise (or in Melon's case, billions) no one shrieks "but how will they pay for it???"
And then when the company does something profoundly illegal, the CEO is always all "I had no idea that was going on!"
"That's different!!"
"I just have to raise prices to keep up with what the market will bear now that everyone is making more money."
Yeah, if you can't afford to pay your workers, either your business model sucks ass, or your business model is just not viable in the area you are trying to do business.
