The propping up of Andrew Cuomo by the D's is coming to bite everyone on the ass. Hochul is not a good governor, and I consider her to be a residual Cuomo. What is going on with the NYS Democrats?

Something tells me the masked up 3% or whatever they call themselves will be A OK to the popo though.

Still I mean

"it seems like that and a couple of similar incidents detailed in the article could be charged as disorderly conduct" If you could identify them: the point of the masks is to make that more difficult.

Michigan's law against masked marches, originally directed against the KKK, was repealed after a couple of controversial cases. Scientology used it to call the cops on protesters (including a friend of mine) wearing Guy Fawkes masks, which was a tradition among "Anonymous" protesters at the time. And during a march against an earlier Israeli incursion into Gaza, veiled women threw rocks through windows of shops displaying Israeli flags: when CAIR applied for another march permit, the police were at first reluctant to grant it, citing the masked march law, but relented provided the niqabis were told to stay home.

Currently my wife and I are enjoying a bout of COVID, wishing that more people wore masks on their horrible taps

Getting better, thanks, Strong like bull!

May it become a distant memory, with no lingering effects. I had a doctor's appointment already scheduled for something else after my bout, and I made sure they put it in my chart and checked for internal damage, to the extent they could (heart and lungs sounded good). We keep learning more, and I want them to know that it's a factor to consider in the future. And, yes, I'm pretty insistent on masking myself indoors. It helps that I'm a small older white woman, just not scary to practically anybody.

OT: A coup is underway in Bolivia. It looks to be another tinpot general trying to seize power after being dismissed by the president.

How could you write this whole article and never once mention the Keene Act? 🙃

Dr. Manhattan avoided this law by not wearing any costume.

Bitter Scribe's avatar

The Republican platform in four words: "Ban masks, not guns."

oscarphile's avatar

Or just "Ban disagreeing with me," which should cover everything

Worriedman's avatar

Well, this whole thing's fucked up.

There's some kind of picture going around this morning of Trump at Mar- a -Largo with 20 or 30 women who are exactly what you would expect to find hanging out there and all of them had lots and lots of (bad) plastic surgery . So bad I imagine they were unrecognizable.

How's that different than wearing a mask?

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Masks don't scare babies, but bad plastic surgery does?

Cat Cafe's avatar

Here's the thing, though. It's not straightforward. Here in LA, masked assholes attacked Jews on their way to a synagogue. It's horrifying. I fully agree they should be unmasked. The law just needs to be as specific as possible. And hateful anti-medical-mask idiots will always be hateful idiots, so I don't know what the best solution is.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

That is horrible, the poor people, I hope they carry mace next time. I hate bullies.

beb's avatar

Think of all those Proud Boys with their neck goiters and masks. Hate to have to make them unmask so you would know who the neo nazis are.

Right?! Talking about bad actors, I'm thinking the creeps I see wearing that shit are Proud Balls. They're so proud of their political position, they refuse to show their faces.

"Just pepper spray anyone wearing a mask, and then arrest the survivors, who clearly didn’t qualify for the exemption. "

Or, just kill them all. Let God sort it out.

Darn your hide! I was just about to post the same thing.

It seems ridiculous but this is only way we can root out which guy is Jason Voorhees

Trux Mint In Box's avatar

So in Red states if you want to rob a bank you won’t get detained if you walk right up to it with an AR15 but you will if you’re wearing a mask?

Rob Roser's avatar

Just like it says in the bible...or is it the Constitution? I always get those mixed up.

Commandments, amendments, same dif.

Robert Eckert's avatar

All in the Family episode (I are old):

MEATHEAD: Read the actual text of the Second Amendment!

EDITH: It says, Thou shalt not make any graven images

ARCHIE: No, no, we're talking about the Constitution. What you're quoting is the Gettysburg Address.

Khavrinen's avatar

What a coincidence -- so do they.

Rob Roser's avatar

It makes perfect sense really. It's far better that I (and others) die from Covid because of our pre-existing lung diseases than Kathy f'n Hochul appear at all liberal. How would one get elected in a state like NY as a liberal? Where will she go for a no-show job after her disastrous political career is over? Try to put f'n Kathy first, that's what I do.

Lefty Wright's avatar

Why does New York keep electing these Republican governors in Democrat's clothing? She also tried to put a far right wing Republican on the top court in the state. Only fierce opposition by fellow Democrats block it. And Cuomo screwed up redistricting that helped the GOP win the US House in 2022, giving Republicans a few more seats than a fairer redistricting would have.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

Centrists.

They're "Afraid" other centrists won't vote for an actual lefty so keep insisting only the Centrists should win.

Republican lite is now Democrat centrist of course.

The real kicker is they ain't even fucking liberal centrist but center right.

Smol Blue Dot's avatar

This also feels like a back door way to ban religious face coverings as well.

Post cancer, but pre-covid, I started wearing a mask on public transportation. I was sent home to work a week before the official shutdown - we were already a flexible workforce, so much more ready to handle the entire work from home situation. Last year, cancer returned with a vengence. Stage 4 and it has spread to my lungs, kidneys, bones, and blood, as well as the original breast cancer. I've continued working through treatment and I'm allowed to work from home full time until such time my system can handle the world. F*ck these people for making health situations political. I hope they all get some immune compromised disease. I'm sorry that's mean, but I'm so sick of this shite!
