It could be worse. When I heard that Gaetz pulled out (hey oh!), I was worried TFG would appoint Texas AG Ken Paxton. As much as Iβd like to get that fucker out of Texas, I love yβall too much to inflict Paxton on the entire country, plus he has his own complete set of baggage. (ICYMI, Paxton finally plead guilty to state security fraud charges in April 2024, for which he was indicted in 2015, in exchange for a sweet deal of probation and community service. He may still be under investigation by the FBI for retaliating again the multiple senior deputies who blew the whistle about his intervention into legal matters involving one of his biggest donors, a real estate executive, for which Paxton was impeached by the Texas House but acquitted by the Texas Senate, because of course he was. I imagine all of that will go away now.)
Itβs entirely possible that TFG didnβt choose Paxton -one of his fiercest loyalists -because he has a wonky eye, so heβs not out of βcentral casting.β You can totally see why TFG would select Bondi instead.
While ALL of TFGβs picks are utterly unqualified, my biggest concerns are Russia/Iran/Syria agent Tulsi Gabbard for DNI, and white Christian Nationalist Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. Hopefully, the quick dispatch of Gaetz means that enough Republicans will find their spine to reject those picks.
