Gosh I had a maniac evangelistic neighbor and it marked me for life. OMG. The Catholic Church is the anti-Christ. The Virgin Mary is Jesus' worst enemy. (trying to steal all the attention.) And you know-- just think of the terrible way the RC church conducted that awful Inquisition! So did Protestant churches-- all the time without pause-- I told her. But this was just one of those things like-- how Jesus really hated gays! Fundamentalists don't seem to talk about Jesus anymore though. I suppose it goes like this: "Have you taken Donald Trump into your life?"

Thank you for a kind and thoughtful comment! It means more to me than you know that you took my post in the spirit in which it was written. Those of us in the Wonkette community have far more in common with each other than we have differences. I posted elsewhere that rrjkr might take a step back from personal experience and consider that others have had different experiences with different outcomes. Let's all continue to find the places where we agree - better to mae converts than hunt down heretics.

I find it deeply fucking ironic that people like Matt Walsh believe that an embryo or fetus is a fully realized individual human being with a full set of rights, but actual living children are nothing more than extensions of their parents who deserve no consideration whatsoever.

You seem to think I am taking this lightly. I most certainly am not. I am saying the exact opposite. Gender re-assignment is a complicated and permanent choice which should only be undertaken after intense counseling There is also risk involved with any surgery, and altering your biochemical make-up with hormones has much risk potential I do not believe anyone under the age of 18 has the life experience to make such a drastic decision nor do I believe there should be any laws against it Yes, since gender is a social construct societal pressures play a role

My comment is not directed at you or any transgender people It's directed at the people who want transgender to be a "SIN" or the people who wish to legislate it. Transgender is not black and white, cut and dried. It exists in degrees and may affect many more people than you realize. Myself included. I had very serious gender identity problems as a young teen. Unfortunately at that time it was not something that was discussed anywhere, so I had to work through it on my own. It's a very personal issue and our wonderful lawmakers have no business in it, just as they have no business in reproductive issues. I wish you only the best.

Not sitting in judgement of anyone, Just suggesting alternatives. With transitioning there are risks, especially with hormone therapy It's not fail safe and the long term effects may as of yet not be fully understood.

Perhaps I am a bit naïve for not realizing that there are fukkers out there who may beat someone up just because they don't like the clothes they are wearing. Anyone who engages in that sort of violence should be locked up for life without parole.

What a pity that the people who need to see this message would never look at it.

Nope. Removing HRT and surgery is NOT an alternative. Making it optional is... but then, it already IS optional. Removing necessary medical care from us is like a death sentence. PLEASE don't encourage that. You truly have NO idea how much harm it does.

If I take HRT, it helps me be able to look in the mirror and live life. Before HRT, I was just slowly killing myself waiting for death. HRT = life. No HRT = death. What are the minor side effects in comparison to that? Death is a hell of a side effect of going unmedicated.

It's not a question of being naive. It's a fact. Plain and simple. We get attacked. Murdered. Raped. We lose our jobs. We lose our homes.

I don't know why you're so dead-set on supporting the removal of medical care for us, especially with the existence of WPATH and EVERY MEDICAL BODY AGREEING THAT IT IS LIFE SAVING, but it's really disturbing to me!

I only shared my personal experience here In the hope that it might be helpful to someone. Actually I have never shared it with anyone ever before. To look at me now you would never suspect that I struggled with gender identity as a young teen, for about a two year period I really wished I were a girl. It was way more than just dressing in drag for kicks I kept a secret stash of girl's clothes and make-up and when no one else was home, I would make myself pretty, look in the mirror and wish that it were true Sometimes I cried. I suspect that there may be far more kids out there who struggling but are not talking about it

How do you think gender affirming surgery (and that is the CORRECT terminology for it) works? WPATH has laid out standards of care, including psychological and physical health needs, that are clear and universal.

Hormone blockers are not HRT, and they buy the children time to MAKE those kind of well-reasoned decisions you are talking about.

Medical intervention is LIFE SAVING. Essentially telling us, "Suck it up, buttercup" is the opposite of life saving.
