McCain 'Apologizes' For Denying MLK His Holiday

Hey so how stupid is John McCain, y'know? Today he gave a speech in Memphis to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was shot there 40 years ago. He took the occasion to apologize to the dead Dr. King for opposing the creation of a national MLK Jr. Day in the 1980s, when he was overtly racist. So now everyone's a winner, and black people are free!

"We can be slow as well to give greatness its due, a mistake I made myself long ago when I voted against a federal holiday in memory of Dr. King," McCain said. "I was wrong and eventually realized that, in time to give full support for a state holiday in Arizona. We can all be a little late sometimes in doing the right thing, and Dr. King understood this about his fellow Americans. But he knew as well that in the long term, confidence in the reasonability and good heart of America is always well placed."

Aww now look, Dr. King would have obviously understood that John McCain was very racist in the 1980s, but it was cool then. Whowasn'tracist, except for the elitist liberal Democrats? Stupid Democrats and their blackness.
