"Masculine truth: bold, 'virtuous' men commit evil.” <- fixed it for him.

Seriously, how are these people breaking through from the Upside Down and invading our world?!

Secret Agent Man Mike's avatar

In modern times you know what cultures have public ritual killings - Dictators.

Generation Vax's avatar

These people are miserable, and misery loves company.

Maelen Moonsinger's avatar

I think it's rather that the desperately insecure need to make others miserable as a self-assertion. Of course, you could make others happy, but your agency there is compromised by the fact that they WANT to be happy. But if you make them miserable....that's all YOU!

"Masculine leadership"

My life advice, find someone who loves you as much as chuds love phrenology.

MTE_NYC's avatar

Hadn't thought about phrenology for a while, but as a kid, I remember seeing an old book on it and the illustrations were hilarious!

Someone really needs to check his hard drive. A person with that level of just generally directed violent ideation is very often reflecting the opprobrium they know their own transgressions and crimes would face. See pedophile hellfire preachers.

MTE_NYC's avatar

Where do you even begin to discuss this guy?

Jim Worth's avatar

It's really easy to call for things like public hangings if you can't imagine *yourself* on the gallows

Laura's avatar

'Ireland (yes, Ireland!)'???

KEITH TAYLOR's avatar

Yes, back in the 18th century when public hangings in England were an approved and daily thing, there was a lot less crime. Everybody knows this.

"Since law was made for every degree

To curb vice in others as well as in me,

I wonder we ha'dnt better company

But gold from law can take out the sting,

And if rich men like ourselves were to swing,

'Twould thin the land, such numbers to string,

Upon Tyburn tree!" ("The Beggar's Opera")

Was looking for a video on YouTube to lull me off to sleep, and the algorithm thought I would enjoy one about a widow on the western frontier who was trying to keep her children from starving and freezing to death, and now I am very awake. Let’s try this again.

Whale Chowder's avatar

Have you added to your to do list?

𝕺𝖓𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖔𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖍𝖆𝖓𝖉's avatar

The answer to that is complicated.

If you mean, based on the video, no. Talked to ex a few days ago he said he was running out of propane. I asked why he didn’t fill it in the summer or fall, and he said it wasn’t empty then. 🙄

I have a friend who said she’s really having trouble running out to the outhouse a couple of times a day. I was pestering her over the summer to do an upgrade, so that it’s enclosed, and she could put a heater on an extension cord in it, but she didn’t do it. She fell one year on her way out there, very pregnant. And now I’m telling her she needs to get a honey bucket.

I have another friend who is incarcerated down in Idaho who wants me to go by his storage unit and get some stuff shipped off to him. He had an ex-girlfriend who’s gotten pretty flaky managing that unit, and I can see so many ways that could go wrong, so I’m building some boundaries and safeguards into this.

I doubled my order of canned cat food, because we’re going through it faster now with the extra mouths to feed. But my pantry is full, and I’m pretty well set for fuel and necessities. But I’m finding my level of alertness is going up as the temperature goes down.

Is that what you were asking?

Whale Chowder's avatar

I was just making a silly joke about your alarm at the video and how it might affect a mind like yours.

The stories you're telling are some real-life ant and the grasshopper shit though. Where you live there are some real consequences to not being prepared. Here, if it doesn't get done today or tomorrow or next week it's no big deal and it's easy for me to have a laugh at your diligence.

I have a lot of respect for how you handle yourself. You deserve to know that.

I'll still rib you though.

𝕺𝖓𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖔𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖍𝖆𝖓𝖉's avatar

You had better.

I had drifted into that video without really paying attention, and I stuck with it until the children started to starve to death, and I was genuinely rattled. Because I think about that shit, all.the.time.

I think I was lulled by the pleasant start we had to the winter. And now we are suddenly in take it seriously time. Not horribly cold, but cold enough that you can get into serious trouble.

You might have been here that night a few winters ago when I slipped on the porch and had a bit of a prang. That was me being stupid careless for a split second, and I’m lucky that I’m not paying for it still. I slithered back inside, and into bed, and got on here and decompressed. The Wonkitchen always has a hot pot of coffee on.

But I learned from it. The next summer I put up grab bars outside on the dangerous corners around the house, and I bought an ice scraper, and this summer, I finished putting up a handrail the length of the porch. It’s about focusing on solutions. I have no patience for people who should know better, who keep focusing on the problems.

I appreciate your words of support, truly, and you should know how much strength I draw from from people here. You are my Powdermilk Biscuits.

I remember one night when I just started sobbing hysterically. It was time for me to give the cat another injection for FIP, and it hurt her so much, and she fought it. And I just got to a really primal level and started rocking back-and-forth and saying I can’t do it. I can’t do it. I can’t do it. And somebody here said, yes, you can, and you must, because she doesn’t have anyone else. And i gave her a double dose of pain medicine, and took a hot shower, and I held her and we fell asleep and I ended up missing her dose that night, but I was back on it the next day.

Whale Chowder's avatar

I remember you talking about the aftermath of your fall. It might be around the time I first became aware of you. You talk about how your cat (is that Alice? I admit I can't quite keep them all straight) doesn't have anyone else, which is true enough. It also appears to me that's true of you, too. You don't really seem to have anyone you can rely on besides yourself.

I picture you as a strong, practical pioneer woman. Great as far as it goes but I hope you aren't lonely, that would make me sad. You're so interesting, I hope you have a big circle of people who appreciate you.

𝕺𝖓𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖔𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖍𝖆𝖓𝖉's avatar

That was Máebh (rhymes with brave), who went right to the brink before she finally got a diagnosis, and then it was a battle against time to save her with some black market meds. That was tough. https://substack.com/profile/1687878-1d57a1d5931d/note/c-185957606?utm_source=notes-share-action&r=106di

I can see why it’s hard to keep them all straight.

I don’t think it even occurs to me to be lonely. There’s so many ways to engage with people. But as far as relying upon myself, that’s what I’m trying to get through to my friend with the outhouse problem. She’s been complaining about that for years. I really want her to understand that even though she’s got a big family, she’s kind of on her own. Nobody else is gonna care about her situation as much as she does, and she could have a solution set up in one day. I get frustrated by her failure to take action, and I’m really pushing her at this point.

What I could never understand was why Mrs. Bob did not work. Poor women worked even then- laundry, taking in sewing, fish gutting, whatever. I know Dickens was in another social class and sort of had a rose colored view of The Poor, but surely he knew that poor women worked.

Poor women have always worked.

Leaders of a Catholic church near Boston kept a Nativity display with an anti-ICE message in place on Monday, defying an order from the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston to remove it.

The display, outside St. Susanna Parish in Dedham, Mass., includes the traditional shepherds, sheep and wise men gathered around a hay-filled manger. But Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus are missing, replaced by a sign reading “ICE WAS HERE” in bold blue letters.

“The Holy Family is safe in the Sanctuary of our Church,” adds a smaller note inside the Nativity scene, which is protected by a plastic shield. “If you see ICE please call LUCE.” The display includes a phone number for LUCE, an immigrant advocacy group, which tracks the activity of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Massachusetts.

ICE began a major immigration enforcement campaign in the Boston area in September, the forefront of a wave of similar efforts in other major cities...

Some members and supporters of the Dedham parish said they were confused by the demand from the archdiocese, which came one month after a rare and nearly unanimous statement from U.S. Catholic bishops condemning the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement campaign...

Other politically themed Nativity scenes have popped up around the country this Christmas season, including one at a church in Evanston, Ill., that includes a baby Jesus figure with his hands bound by zip ties. In another Nativity scene near Chicago, Mary, Joseph and Jesus are missing, with a sign telling viewers that “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”...
