Back in the day ... For some reason, the killing of Philando Castile at the hands of the police in Minnesota and the massacre of police in Dallas, one day apart, seem to be motivating otherwise silent people to step up and say something about the problem of police violence and institutional racism that leads to black folks being generally mistreated by cops and far too often killed by their hand. We've seen white conservatives from very wingnutty websites
Excuse me if this seems like whitesplaining, being very white and very retired lower middleclass, but can I suggest that you try to just think of him as I do -- the greatest BB player ever, and since then just another rich guy. He just did a nice, small, rich guy thing, so good for him as far as it goes.
He's not a culture hero, he's just another rich guy. Not worth being angry about (IMO).
Did you actually read this? It also clearly states black people are disproportionally subject to force in arrests than whites. Article doesn't say it but armed black people appear to be more likely to get shot than armed white people. Unarmed black folks may not be shot any more often than white folks, but they do get roughed up more often. Your argument is invalid, please stop at the desk and hand in your name tag on the way out.
Yes, I know! It's shocking - what did MJ say when you called him? It's of vital importance that you let him know the error of his ways. Perhaps he has time to take back the money. Maybe he can use it to help incarcerate more people country wide! Get all those thugs off the street. It's shameful.
Only 15 black executives have ever made it to the chairman or CEO position of a Fortune 500-listed company. Of these 15 executives, six are active right now. At a lower financial level, there are currently no black majority-owned companies in the Fortune 500. At a lower financial level, as of the 2012-13 season, six CEO or President positions were held by blacks with NBA teams. Three of those were with the Charlotte franchise of which Jordan is the majority owner and one man was both CEO and President for the Dallas Mavericks.
The biggest void in the American power scene for blacks is lack of black ownership of large enterprises. Ownership is The Man. Jordan is the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets. He's also CEO. He's doing decently after a disastrous apprenticeship with the Washington Wizards. He has African-Americans in more powerful behind the scenes positions than any other team in the NBA and probably any American sports team.
He's contributed tens of millions of dollars to various charities, such as the Boys and Girls Club of America, Special Olympics, UNCF/College Fund, Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, Cats Care, CharitaBulls, James R Jordan Foundation, Kids Wish Network, LIVESTRONG, The Make a Wish Foundation, Nevada Cancer Institute, Opportunity Village and The Miami Organization. He actually founded some of these organizations, while "merely" donating to others. During Katrina he wrote a check for 500 grand to Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild New Orleans.
Jordan's personal favorite foundation is one he founded. Jordan founded the James Jordan Boys and Girls Club, named after his father. He kickstarted the foundation with a personal donation of $2 million and another $5 million donation from his team. The foundation's goals are to strengthen and motivate families and children. It offers thousands of youngsters across America a variety of opportunities to realize their potential in ways in and out of sport.
While not, until recently, personally active in the political arena, Jordan has donated to various Democrats running for office over the years. In August, 2012 Michael Jordan hosted the basketball fundraiser in New York which pulled in about 3 million dollars for the Obama campaign. This year he was active in the NBA and in his state in organizing opposition North Carolina's anti-trans peepee law. Charlotte, his NBA city, is the one which lost the right to host the next NBA All-Star Game as part of concretely expressing the NBA's opposition to NC's legalized bigotry.
His contribution to Black empowerment has never been noisy and he has weathered a lot of criticism because of that. But, progress in racial equality is a good bit more than donning a T-shirt, marching in protests and standing on a podium with a microphone.
Until enough blacks own a piece of the USA, all blacks will be subject to the whims of those who do have the power. Jordan, who joined the billionaire's club in 2015, is one of the most powerful black business leaders in the USA and he makes it count.
No surprise either, sadly.
This is just the Tip-off the iceberg.
He was Talkin' About Practice

This here. You don't support your fellow workers when they are criminals.
He had the best work ethic.
I suspect I'm older, because I am A Yooooge Kareem fan.
But MJ was still the best.

Or, you baboon, it may have something to do with prejudicial behaviors by LEOs and understandable resentment by the people they are "serving".
Neither did you, you tit or you would realize you are drawing the wrong conclusion.

Not only that, he is a North Carolina native. He grew up in Wilmington.
I suspect they were pro-active about that
