I wonder what he would have thought if she'd shot him, particularly as bleeding is associated with that as well. In other words, I agree with you that it seems this judge is calling all murders depraved or -- as you suggested and I agree -- just thinks this one was depraved because a woman did it.
Also, I was waiting to hear if the guy deserved it -- ie, in many domestic violence situations the man kills the woman and the courts tend to shrug, but when a woman is with a malignant narcissist the risk of her getting killed is a lot higher than with even milder narcissists especially if she tries to leave him. In other words, was she getting him before he got her? In that case it's not depraved at all.
It makes sense, if there is some minimum respect for the law involved, or at least respect for the higher court. Sending it back to the same judge for re-sentencing is a reprimand. This guy's problem is that he has no respect.

This is not an isolated incident. This judge is not alone in his abuse of the legal system and people suffer because of it.
