Good explanation of state's rights in the various states. Thank you. (Still sorry MI couldn't boot him off ballot.)

If he’s not on the primary ballot, his insane followers will just write him in, and he’ll win anyway. If a few states disqualify him, he’s still going to win enough delegates in the other states to be their nominee. The job of disqualifying this subhuman monster belonged to Mitch McConnell et al in 2021, and they chose not to do it.

This decision is stupid. What is the secretary of state's job then? There is no constitutional requirement for political parties. They have 'constitutional obligation '.

I guess I got confused earlier in the day when I first posted that the Michigan SC had ruled that the effort to remove PAB from the ballot was based on Michigan state law and constitution, when they really only ruled on the procedural abilities of the SoS to remove him. I later saw that the Michigan Supreme Court had returned the suit to the lower court - but it turns out the suit never made it that far. I guess that's one of the pitfalls of a) not being a lawyer, and b) perhaps reading reports insufficiently.

This whole conversation is friggin ridiculous. Of course the 14th applies. It's patently obvious.

As long as he loses, Biden wins, and Trump further damages and bankrupts the GQP nationwide, it’s all good.

Why are Rs so hung up on "being convicted of" engaging in insurrection for the DQ? Would a conviction of being under 35 or being foreign-born also be required? Engage is fairly broadly defined. Would a kicker who deflects a ball into their own net have been "engaged" in the other team's win? Sorta. The fans would convict on mere observation. With PAB it was much clearer.

Civil War veterans weren't prosecuted either. They were sent home where they were not allowed to serve federal office.

It is a straw for them to cling to, and they love to turn our reasonable positions (not guilty until conviction) inside out to use against us, makes them feel smart, not stupid like everybody says. What other excuse could they use, to defend the indefensible? It's not like he carried on his insurrectionary activities sub rosa, he was just as loud and obviously villainous as he always is, having no more idea of possible consequences than the dog who fouls the bathroom rug.

The phrase "pathetic gambit" originated in PABOTUS' fevered brain just like Dean Phillips will be President someday. That is, not a chance...

O/T Surprise surprise. Meatball is (as the kids say) throwing shade at a Super PAC that supports his campaign

https://www.mediaite.com/news/desantis-throws-shade-at-his-own-super-pac-amid-chaos-i-dont-have-control-over-it/#article-nav

"Florida Governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis threw shade at a Super PAC supporting his campaign during an interview with RealClearPolitics’ Philip Wegmann.

“I don’t have control over it, and that’s the problem with how this is set up. If I controlled it, I would own it, and I would obviously have run it in a good way,” said DeSantis when asked about the drama at Never Back Down, the original Super PAC dedicated to backing his White House bid.

“It’s just an independent group, and so the dynamics there are things that I just have no visibility into whatsoever,” he noted.

On Sunday, The New York Times published a report about the goings-on at Never Back Down, which they said has been embroiled in a feud with the campaign it supports."

"I would obviously have run it in a good way,” said DeSantis" Except for the part where he obviously runs nothing "in a good way."

Ta, Dok. Did President Obama sleep in that bed, so now the elephant has to pee on it while TFG watches?

Gavin Newsom is opposed to removing PAB from the ballot in California. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we WANT PAB to run against OHJB?

DJ Teetop's avatar

I don't. I want him in Arkham Asylum.

Arkham is too good for him. Send him to the Phantom Zone.

I’d rather fuck him out of as many electoral votes as possible. It’s what he’d do to us.

Hooker P Tape skipping dipshit's avatar

I work our local elections. A lot of his supporters won't vote if he's not on the ballot. That's good for democrats down ballot.

Enter Ranting's avatar

Yes, but then we wind up with a Nikki Haley type, who would be a bigger threat to OHJB.

Wookiee Monster's avatar

I still don’t believe she has a chance in hell of winning the GOP nomination. In fact, I think she’s just about peaked in terms of her support among primary voters.

For clarity’s sake it helps to remember that the Michigan GOP set $1.8 million on fire during 2023, which is an off year, and as of June had less than $150,000 liquid cash on hand.
