But, what if most of these people really are just as dumb as they sound? I mean, really, that tweet about discontinuing our support for Hong Kong as showing support for Hong Kong is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. What the actual fuck?
I don't recall the Trump administration making a big deal about the anniversary of the Tienanmen Square protests during its first three years -- only now that it needs a coronavirus scapegoat.
I have been amazed that Peking kept its mitts off Hong Kong as long as it did. But no surprise it is moving now. Not only is Trump distracted and incompetent, HK is no longer important to the Chinese economy, amounting to about 7%. I expect N Korea, Turkey, Iran, Venezuela and similar actors are also making plans to rub Pompeo's nose in the shit.
The situation in Hong Kong isn’t good, but maybe these protests are mainly not allowed because of, you know, like, the whole pandemic thing? I so, this is just another example of right wingers encouraging everyone to spread the virus far and wide because for some reason all protests are now good. Until and unless a black person might be remembered or systemic racism addressed, of course.
China has just ordered its state-owned firms to cease purchases of US soybeans and pork, effectively blowing up Phase 1 of Trump's vaunted trade deal, and eliminating the possibility of a Phase 2 agreement before the election.
