He isn’t wrong that if he announced, ala Mike Pence, that he couldn’t support or vote for a deranged madman like Trump, would it matter to Trump’s base? The selfish fear each GOP rep had in 2021 was, even if all of the GOP unite against Trump and convict him in the Senate, thereby ending Trump’s political career, will his base still hold it against each of them and banish them from the party? We are talking about Republicans here, they don’t show courage and stand on principle against an obvious threat like Trump if they feel the slightest risk or consequence. So while a few did vote to impeach him, most did not. And they recognize the MAGA party is ugly, petty and hostile, but they preferred to kiss the ring and beg to remain included. It’s sorta like a wag-the-dog conundrum in politics. Does the party lead their constituents by example and oust Trump, accept a brief period of blowback but ultimately move on to the next (hopefully) less terrible option? Or do they cower, shrink from the crisis and “let the voters decide” as Mitch so conveniently explains. He’s just supporting the nominee, you see? Nothing he could do. He could have whipped his party to convict and be rid of Trump in 21, when Mitch still had some relevance in the conference. Maybe he tried behind the scenes and knew he didn’t have the votes. Or didn’t he try, instead taking the easier way out for his career, but choosing to subject America to Trump 2.0? Because if he did, he’s as spineless and soulless as we’ve always known he was. Trump had to be impeached for either extorting Ukraine for campaign help, “a favor” by smearing Biden in exchange for military aid, or surely for inciting J6, refusing to accept a peaceful transition and promoting The Big Lie. Mitch failed.

Even turtles and tortoises must grow old and die. This one may or may not be here to vote for the criminal fascist conman who jeopardized Congress and democracy itself. He hopes to be, since he’s got nothing better to do and these old congressmen never go away, retire and enjoy themselves. Choosing instead to surround themselves with other insufferable people until the bitter end.

I don’t know how to grab it, but Donna Brazil alluded to Trump’s stink on This Week, it was a last word she got in edgewise

McConnell is disgusting. Then again, he's a Republican; it's part and parcel of what they are.

So the story here is "Man without a soul displays complete contempt for the welfare of American citizens and believes any decision based on political expediency is a good decision, No Regrets!" I guess the lesson learned is there always a good reason to do evil. I hope can add that to his obit

Or, perhaps, "turtle without a neck displays no care for democracy and locks up while chewing waterweed."

Hell, at least Tiger Woods can play golf without cheating and STILL sucking at it.

As someone has so aptly pointed out, we wouldn’t be in this Trumpian disaster if Republicans had taken care of Trump by impeaching him when they had the chance. If Biden is as evil as they say he is, surely the GOP could have found another candidate and tossed TFG on the smoldering trash pile of their failed attempts at governing.

McConnell you chickenshit. Or rather, Turtleshit. You never had the balls to stand up to criminal Trump, excluding once (very briefly, by accident) immediately following the 1/6/21 death scare. Get the fuck out of this country and run to China with your wife and her daddy! You've failed and there's no chance in hell you're taking back the US Senate THIS year, Mitch you're a Trumpy Bitch! Get OUT!!!->->->

Lucky Lindy had the same number of families as Trump. Trump just didn't have all his at the same time.

FOX must be tired of Hairball Vance. I'm not sure why the host would bring up an article on what a lickspittle toadie he is otherwise. Unless that's a good thing in MAGAt world.

Vance placed his pathetic whinging racist ideology on full blast in "Hillbilly Elegy," and he hasn't stopped since. Why anyone listens to that windbag escapes me.

“I said three years ago, shortly after the assault on the Capitol, that I would support the nominee of the party, whoever that was. And I do.”

It’s weird how politicians will twist themselves into knots instead of just lying, seems like it would be easier to just say sure, I’m voting for him.

(As an aside, it’s weird that they’re all on about Biden is so old while it looks like Mitch is literally dying right in front of my eyes as I watch that video)

GRAHAM: Why don't you ask me, would any -- if he's [Trump] convicted in any of these trials, would it change my view? No. I think all these trials are political. I think it's selective prosecution. […] I think it's selective prosecution for political purposes.

My esteemed senator seems to have forgotten the hissy fit he threw in 1998 while trying to impeach Bill Clinton over a consensual affair. "It's all about character, and the dignity of the office." I guess that was NOT selective, political persecution.

Now he's totally cool with a pussy grabbing, pathological lying con man, who's cheated on all of his wives, and been convicted of sexual assault and bank fraud. I guess character and the dignity of the office don't matter if you're a Republican.
