I’m not going to be misogynistic about it: Murkowski is a worthless piece of shit just like every other GOP politician. Even the ones who voted against this did so for the wrong reasons. I just wish I believed on hell so I could wish them all there.
Between the inevitable closures of rural hospitals and nursing homes and produce being left to rot in the fields, democrats will have plenty of things to weaponize in 2026 and 2028. The only question is, will it penetrate the anti-reality bubble that surrounds rightwing media?
Here’s my suggestion for the slogan for the next election (assuming there is one):
Because the right wing doesn't give a damn and I don't know how many times someone is going to have to tell you that when people have been trying for eight years
But the answer to your last question is that 2 Black women have already come up with
"Is it great yet?"
"Are we great again yet?"
But the right wing over whom you are apparently obsessed is not the target for those comm slogans.
Those are minds you cannot change.
And yet you continue to throw good money and minds after bad when Bennie Johnson is hawking "merch" with "Alligator Alcatraz" on them when the fascist are CAGING HUMAN BEINGS WITHOUT DUE PROCESS
I saw that most of the amendments Democrats offered in the vote-a-rama involved taking the bill off the floor and submitting it back to committee "with instructions". They were easily defeated.
I dunno - I recognize that Dems don't have the power in the Senate to do much than offer amendments in the vote-a-rama, but somehow, I think they could've found some more effective way than just recommending the bill back to committee. We have often heard about "poison pill amendments", and, while I don't know if they could have come up with anything that Republcians wouldn't just say, "Sure!" and pass it anyway ( "poison pills" often add stuff that the bill sponsors can't stomach - but we have seen that in pursuit of their damnable tax cuts, Republicans would have agreed to anything short of reinstating Dobbs )
Bullfuckingshit. This isn't about Alaska or any other state. This is about lining her/their pockets and the payouts should be huge since the billion and millionaires get a shit ton of money while the peasants starve and die. This is so fucking horrendous I have no words to describe the horrors this will bring for YEARS. I'm so fucking angry and scared since my insurance is going to hacked to death.
I want the 77 million Rs who voted for this terrorist horror show to feel the pain of all of this. I want to them to never have a moment of peace or sleep again. I want them to suffer in every way imaginable. I really do HATE this country and the people who put us here. There will NEVER be forgiveness for any of this NEVER. Anyone who causes this much pain, suffering and death to millions deserves the worst of everything. The sooner they are off this planet the better it will be.
The cynicism of protecting your own state while consiging the rest of the country to hell is truly worthy of its own level in said hell, where every one of these traitors is headed. Sadly, not soon enough to save the rest of us.
Sometime back around January, my wife encouraged me to get my passport renewed. "In case things get crazy." I did so. The completion of Alligator Auschwitz, the 13-fold increase to ICE funding in this new horror show of a budget...
While we still need to secure passports for our kids, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to execute that particular contingency right about now.
Even without a job offer, if my understanding is correct, I can take money out of my assorted 401(k)s to have enough for a family of four to meet the financial thresholds for Canadian immigration.
It's starting to look very tempting. This feels like it's going to get far worse before it gets better. And I wonder how long before the borders close altogether.
I would hardly take my statement as anything resembling advice, but if I was reading things correctly (probably a big IF), our family would need to have something on the order of $20k-plus cash on hand--assuming we didn't have an accepted job offer in hand.
As with anything of this nature, would advise consulting with an actual Canadian immigration lawyer if you're so inclined.
I haven't checked lately, because I gave up try to get into Canada/New Zealand/Iceland a few years ago, and just accepted that I would live out the remainder of my days here, but $20K sounds WAY low. The above mentioned countries all or mostly have a points system to qualify to get in, and/or a "millionaires" clause. I didn't qualify.
It's possible I'm misreading it or that there are other costs that I'm not taking into account. Again, I have not consulted with a lawyer on any of these things. Just nervous Googling. And part of the process is proof of funds, that you would have enough liquid assets to start a life in Canada, assuming you did not have an accepted job offer in hand (in which case, the proof of funds is waived, as I understand it). For a family of four, it's around $25k Canadian, which works out to around $21k USD. Then all the other assorted application and processing fees, etc. There's tables for it on Canada's immigration and citizenship website.
But that's also to say nothing of how much it would wind up costing to actually hire an immigration attorney, which is likely preferable to trying to navigate this system on your own.
Money is only part of it is my point, I guess. The points system involved is based on health, age, language skills, work skills, etc. One needs to qualify in that way first (which I did not), and then the money issue comes into play. Since I can't turn back the hands of time, or get myself a new healthy body, I can't qualify. If you do, the larger Canadian cities are a great choice. Go for it!
Yeah...I'm about to be 43. Upshot is that my wife is a teacher and that's a pretty in-demand career everywhere. But me? I'm a marketing coms person.
I'm an early-40's straight white guy with a bachelors degree who works in marketing and communications. They churn versions of me out with alarming regularity.
Let's step aside from the News for a moment and thank Dok for some outstanding Art Direction. Nothing -- nothing! -- could be more appropriate or stirring here than dipping readers into the Medieval Mind as We the Rabble stand aghast, at last facing a Monster Foretold. Dr. Zoom, you have made an illuminating, winning, and excellent selection! The AIGA will be in touch!
Crockett posted the bill is worse than before and Dems will hold the line...
I don't know why that line always gets me... guys, I have no faith in our representatives because there are few Crocketts and AOCs. WE will need to the HOLD THE LINE
We need to figure what that line is pretty quickly. We need a strike, protests, fucking something because they are going to kill us anyway
So as I understand things (I don't understand things), to meet the Cheeto's artificial deadline there will be no conference committee, but rather the House will have to vote on the exact bill the Senate passed. Just as the Framers intended?
Johnson was griping about too many changes. I know the House will fall in line because the Cheeto says so, but is it too much to hope that it only scrapes through the House by 1 vote too? I mean, not that that matters at all.
“When people suggest that federal dollars go to one of our 50 states in a quote, bailout, I find that offensive. I advocated for my state’s interests, I will continue to do that, and I will make no excuses for doing that. Do I like this bill? No. But I tried to take care of Alaska’s interests," [Murkowski] told NBC News.
"But I know, I know that in many parts of the country, there are Americans that are not going to be advantaged by this bill. I don’t like that," she added.
Hmm, if only she was a US Senator in a position to, I don't know, fucking do something about that and vote no on the bill? Her no vote would have likely sank the bill, preventing all of the horrible shit she's consigning to non-Alaskan Americans.
I almost hate these fucks more than the die-hard cultists. They know what they are doing is wrong but do it anyway.
I absolutely hate them more than the cultists. The cultists are just pigfuck ignorant because they’ve been lied to for decades. The politicians are the ones DOING the lying, and profiting from it. Stupid vs. evil - stupid can be fixed.
They're making sure that the oligarch class has enough of a stranglehold on the country that they won't have to give up power again. They have so much money they can continue to throw billions at politicians, coupled with the extensive gerrymandering, etc. in the US, that many elections may be a foregone conclusion (certainly at the president level).
Money = power in America, and this bill further ensures that regular people don't have the means or resources or even time to fight back. I don't see how this ends peacefully — we're either crushed under the boot for good or people are pushed to the breaking point.
I’m not going to be misogynistic about it: Murkowski is a worthless piece of shit just like every other GOP politician. Even the ones who voted against this did so for the wrong reasons. I just wish I believed on hell so I could wish them all there.

Had enough yet?
There will be an election. Just like in Russia and Hungary.

Okay, I’m going to mute you for a while because I don’t need this hostility in my life right now. Especially when we’re on the same side.

Ta, Dok.
And what rough beast
Its hour come round at last
Slouches toward Bedlam to be born.

Just popping in to say that I am super depressed about this. In case it wasn't already clear.
Welcome to the club!

Omnipresent oppressive secret police. Oh lucky USA.
Hey right wing fuckwads whining about ‘oppression’ because someone with blue hair asked you to please call them ‘they’: yeah, that wasn’t oppression.
Greg Sargent points out the contrast between 2025 tie-breaking JD Vance and 2017 JD Vance in a NYT oped. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/21/opinion/trumpcare-obamacare-solutions.html?smid=url-share (https://bsky.app/profile/gregsargent.bsky.social/post/3lsw3piqnz22x)
Vance goes where Thiel tells him too. Don't look for consistency there.

How did the senate manage to make it worse???
You’ve reminded me of the song Hold the Line with version by grandson and tom Morrelo
Toto sucks.
Woah, whoa, whoa.
Such a great song and I'm a big fan of grandson in general.
So as I understand things (I don't understand things), to meet the Cheeto's artificial deadline there will be no conference committee, but rather the House will have to vote on the exact bill the Senate passed. Just as the Framers intended?
Correct. Johnson and Scalise said they will vote on it as is.
Johnson was griping about too many changes. I know the House will fall in line because the Cheeto says so, but is it too much to hope that it only scrapes through the House by 1 vote too? I mean, not that that matters at all.
This is literally "Fuck you, I got mine."
“When people suggest that federal dollars go to one of our 50 states in a quote, bailout, I find that offensive. Had she voted "NO", that shit wouldn't happen to her constituents or anyone else's constituents. Logic. How does it work?
So don't vote for it? Cripes!
Hmm, if only she was a US Senator in a position to, I don't know, fucking do something about that and vote no on the bill? Her no vote would have likely sank the bill, preventing all of the horrible shit she's consigning to non-Alaskan Americans.

"...but not, you know, enough to do anything about it. Aloha, suckers!"
Republican? check.
Lack of spine? check.
Zero-sum mentality? check.
Pulls up the ladder, fuck you? check.
Explaining = losing.
Like in Orwell, look closer, and you can see their overall strategy.
Destroy any and all means of recovery, so that this time, the pendulum won't swing back.
Those cuts have a purpose beyond "because I can" and "tax breaks for billionaires".
.
There's an evil working here that regular people can't imagine existing,
other than what they've seen in movies and on TV, so it seems an abstract concept.
This is beyond our area of expertise, and experts we used to depend on to manage this
are few and far between, or missing on action.
Project 2025 bulldozing happily along.

Mass graves, mostly.
Yep, they've pushed it to the breaking point and there's no coming back
We fight or we will die, just more slowly and maybe in an ever worse situation
