Doesn't the Bureau of Standards maintain one for the "cubit"?

The value of what we now call π was known with some accuracy even when Kings was written; as long as the units are consistent (oops, sorry, I meant the circumference was measured with the <i>imperial</i> cubit, the diameter as the standard cubit) the value should be the same. The problem for the "biblical inerrancy" people is that the value of 3 is fine for the story, but opens a gate of "interpretations" if accepted. Hence they will dote on the "inner measurement" vs the "outer measurement". In the process, they contribute their own "interpretation". But, to them that is an "explanation".

And, yeah, it isn't as if we're looking at precisely calibrated instruments in any event. OTOH, it is from the bible and must be correct, no matter?
