I saw the Oak Ridge Boys a couple months ago. I had never before been in the presence of someone whose bass was so low that my body actually vibrated when he sang.

I totally get that. I was dead on my feet after that trial - went to the doctor and my BP and heart rate were through the roof. Had multiple abnormal EKGs. 2+ weeks of sleeping maybe a couple hours a night really did a number on my health. If it had been for a giant company, it might have been less stressful, but my clients were really good people who operated a very small practice.

While waiting for the verdict to come in, one of the doctors mentioned she’d had her house cleaned for an appraiser to come in, so I asked if she was buying a new place. No; she was refinancing so they could pay my attorney’s fees. FFS. I knew if we’d lost on even 1 count, they probably would have had to file for bankruptcy based on the plaintiff’s attorneys fees alone. I thanked her for not telling me that until after I gave my closing.

I tried to ease back in with a class action that had a bunch of other attorneys on it, but it didn’t take them long to dump all of it in me, and soon I had multiple conference calls starting at 6 AM with an overseas client 4 days/week. There was some other stuff too, but that’s when I decided I was done. Didn’t even want to work for another firm, although I had plenty calling me, because I figured it would be the same shit, different location.

Believe me, I understand the fortunate confluence of factors that allowed me to just walk away when I did. But I do miss the work. And if I could do what I did without all the administrative bullshit, and without recording my life in 6 minute increments, I might give it another shot.

Well, that was quite the rant, but thanks for listening.
