Land of the free, home of the brave.

How nice to know that the Jersey cops were not being slandered on "The Sopranos" by their portrayal as corrupt from the top down.

I can foresee a wrongful death lawsuit now. Good. I hope his family gets some relief from this horrible incident.

He's 78 or so. She's 39.

The jokes write themselves.

However, my favorite was the dueling adulterous married couple...accountant husband tells wife he has found a younger lover.

Wife tells husband SHE has found a younger lover, and says, "As an accountant, you know that 20 goes into 43 more than 62 goes into 25."

You *do* know Menendez is a Democrat, right? Presumably his wife (or wife-to-be at the time) is one, too.

I've had three.... minor accidents in my life.

One I was playing pokemon go in my car in the middle of the night, I was stopped and parked in a parking lot, and accidentally reversed and knocked down a sign. I panicked, then righted it.

Another was in a hospital parking building. The gate wasn't working so there was a long line to get out, and the car in front of me was backing up, so I backed up in response and tapped the bumper of the dude behind me. I panicked a little, froze, then figured I should probably get out and talk to the dude. It went well, it was just a tap and no damage done, he was fine and he saw the car ahead backing up too. We went on our merry way.

The only thing I actually hit and killed was a.... I think it was a duck? that was sitting in the middle of the road. I genuinely don't know if I could have slowed down or avoided it. Because of that I usually assume I could, but well, my brain was "wait why is there a duck in the road?" and not "WAIT WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A DUCK IN THE ROAD?" and responded appropriately. I note it as the one thing I never really was panicked over, it disturbed me and I was curious as to why the animal was laying there and did not move, but mostly just hoped it was quick. The body was gone when I went back home like 14 hours later.

I am trying to imagine Nadine's callousness, and I'm thinking... yeah, this is basically seeing humans of lesser status as NPCs to do with what you will.

And the Senator saw that, and not only married that gave that a sixty thousand dollar car AND went to to protect that.

I have to drive a dark rural road on the way to my house. At night you are extremely cautious so you don’t hit a deer. However one morning drive a bird had a death wish and flew into my windshield. That broke my heart. I cannot imagine being so cavalier about another human being.

Man, those pictures. Her body language is anger that she is being addressed by the police merely for killing a guy.

Weird way to say she has blood on her hands, but ok.

Hey, c'mon! Blond lady in a fur coat hits replaceable schlub. Bergen County police may not handle many traffic fatalities, but the fur coat made this one a slam dunk.

Forget about it, Jake. It's New Jersey.

Like our dear friend Zyxomma, I always try and use my powers for good, not evil. Mostly, anyways. 😉

However, I have my cop story as well. Picture it, Dallas, TX, 2002. I was working as the unit production manager on a small film called Zombie Campout. (It's bad, y'all. Really bad.) Anyway, we had been shooting all day at Grapevine Lake, and I definitely looked like someone who had been working outside all day. No makeup, hair in a ponytail, t-shirt and jeans. Plus I had my production notebook and camera bags on the passenger seat.

Anyway, it was about 1am on a Saturday night, but it was still early enough in LA to call my boyfriend, so I exited off the highway, found a well-lit parking lot, and gave him a ring. We had been talking about 10 minutes when I hear a tapping on the front window, scaring the shit out of me since I didn't notice him walking up to my car at all. I kept the phone on, and rolled down my window to ask what the problem was.

Apparently, I had pulled into a hotel parking lot that had more than its fair share of prostitution. So they saw a woman on her phone, in her car, late at night, and got suspicious. Which, hey, I totally understand. But all he had to do was take one look at me, an exhausted and filthy woman who was obviously not a working girl, to know that I wasn't a target. But he fucking took his sweet time running my license and plates, and made me feel like I should have known better than to park there. I mean, hello? Would he have rather I called him while driving? I was just following the rules, officer. He never even apologized afterwards, the big jerk.

My cousin's wife accidentally killed someone with her car. It was a sad confluence of conditions--driveway angle, poorly lit street, backing up, etc. Even the family of the man who died said it was just a tragic accident. She still couldn't bring herself to get behind the wheel of a car for a whole year and needed tons of therapy.

So what I'm saying is I think we can guess what kind of person Ms. Nadine is.

He still married her after this, too. Soul-chilling lack of empathy aside, you’d think his self-preservation would kick in and he’d think she was more trouble than she was worth. She MUST know where the bodies are buried. Literally. He’s just as bad as she is, if not worse. She’s obviously steeped in her solipsistic destruction and careless, callous disregard for other humans. He only witnessed ::gestures wildly:: aaalll of that and still signed up. A match made in hell I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Someone that devoid of conscience is not going to resign willingly. Senate Democrats need to borrow a cup of badass from the House and hardcore force him out.

Why did the Koop family not file a wrongful death case against her??? Car vs. pedestrian, no apparent direct witnesses to the accident (aside from Menendez), shoddy police work along with no accident reconstruction? That's child's play for a good personal injury lawyer.

I haz a confuse.

A case like that can get into the millions of $, depending on Koop's age, earning potential, etc. But first, the amount of her insurance coverage and any assets she had at the time (over and above the amount of the policy) is what ya' want to know. And even if both were shit, maybe you want a big court judgment anyway because it can be hung around dear Nadine's neck for 20 years.

So they probably would have had to pay Koop's family a pretty penny for them to not formally sue.

And it's trickier when the police won't cooperate, which my guess is they wouldn't based on their behavior up until now.

Yeah, I don't see how you get anywhere when the police have declared the driver not at fault and *specifically* the pedestrian culpable.
