A "commonsense conservative" is one who is not certain that all Democrats worship Satan and sacrifice babies to him, he just suspects that they might. He also is not all in on repeal of the 12th,14th,15th and 18th Amendments because taking up that cause would be too bold, too forthright.

Better to just quietly undermine them whenever an opportunity presents itself.

Don Bacon’s alright (for a “modern Republican”). He’s in that Hogan/Murkowski mold - not quite a Kinzinger or Liz Cheney though.

But Vargas is a really strong candidate. I thought he was going to win his last go at this race.

There's a Cincinnati HS called Roger Bacon and for the life of me I don't understand why the headline in the Dayton paper when one of our Catholic HS beat them isn't "C-J fries Bacon", or conversely "Bacon sizzles in win over Alter".

Cat-picture tease! Getting our hopes up, only to be dashed.

Would someone please let Rebecca know that clearly a week is not compelling enough. Now if she dangled a year of cat pictures in front of us as enticement for the spring subscription, we would get the remaining siggies even if we had to gift them to our neighborhood wingnut.

Since 1000 people signed up, we should get cat pictures for three and a half days instead of seven.

Putting the lunatics in charge of the asylum. In Washington State we have enjoyed the excellent leadership of Jay Inslee since 2012. He has stepped aside for his amazing Attorney General Bob Ferguson who was the first AG to sue Trump over the Muslim ban. Of course, the GOP are fielding a couple of duds, Dave Reichert, Bird, and apparently 2 men named Bob Ferguson because they're garbage. A couple of weeks ago the state GOP convention met in Spokane to see who they were going to endorse for governor. They decided not to endorse anybody because they DON'T BELIEVE IN DEMOCRACY. I am not lying. These people no longer want to vote because they can't win. Not sure if they're recommending mud wrestling as the choice mechanism. But the point is they'd rather give up Democracy than offer policies that normal people can appreciate.

"Nebraska actually splits its three electoral votes along district lines, so the Second District actually helped elect Barack Obama in 2008 as well." ( Nebraska has 5 electoral votes, one for each district, with the remaining two awarded to the "statewide" winner )

There's been a move by Nebraska Republicans to abandon that in favor of a "winner take all" assignment of electoral votes - a move basically targeting that 2nd District,

That story is from the beginning of April, but it looks like the Governor is going to call a "special session" to consider this move

Native Nebraskan here that is very grateful for Wonkette featuring this story. I had no idea the state GOP was up to these hijinks. Hoping the Second District goes Dem...my hometown of Lincoln should also have a Dem rep, but the jerks to the West of the city keep electing jerks.

I have heard on farm videos that rainfall is less and and less every year. Never has been enough in the western part of the state.

Wells now save most of NE farms. Over time less rain means less water table.

And John Deere's ain't getting no cheaper.

There *may* be a reason they call a whole section of the state the Sand Hills. Plus I remember one winter wildfire burning a big chunk of western Neb. A warning, perhaps?

I understand fire is a constant threat for the farmers.

They plow under partly grown corn stalks that the pivot doesn't reach and won't produce corn anyway. To protect against fire.

One impressive thing is that you yell "FIRE" and everyone jumps to help.

The Fire Dept sends the trucks, the farmers send water tankers, tractors with CAT earth movers, and the kids take food and water to everyone. Quite impressive.
