I have two kids on the spectrum how about we save that money o

For unneeded vaccine studiand in special ed programs which are always understaffed and under funded.what we needare aremore support services for our kidsim justhu waiting for Elon to slash medicaid

Or enact a job requirement so my non verbal intellectually disabled son will lose his group home and be out on the street I have no doubt that they wouldn't give a shit.

It all really boils down to one thing: they think you can prove a negative - in this case, that vaccines don't cause autism. You can't prove that. You can however show that there is no evidence for the hypotheses that vaccines do cause autism. And that has been shown exhaustively.

Sure, it's a total waste of money, but at least it will keep some scientists employed for the next few years. With this pathetic government firing everyone they can, that's about the best we can do.

Oh, you think they're going to hire REAL SCIENTISTS? That would be nice.

The destruction of science and education is always the first clear sign of a society in collapse.

And here we are.

Then, we are going to study whether or not the Earth is spherical, because THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO DOUBT THAT, so it should be investigated - and for now, stay away from the edge.

The Jan-6-er InfoWars fan who tried to cause trouble at our IWD rally on Saturday that word repeatedly... and when he was told by the assembled ladies in no uncertain terms that it was an unacceptably offensive slur and he was being an asshole and a moron, he whined because we had called him names so why couldn't he call us names NO FAIR!!11!!.

Somebody should tell RatFKJr that it's faster to publish the results and THEN do the research.

In his case, he already knows what the results will be, so why bother doing the study at all?

Expect the breakouts to expand exponentially. Spring break starts next week and loads of families from around the country will be headed to Disney for vacation and spreading measles. Remember the disease is spread through the air and in lingering droplets from coughs and sneezes. Now is the time for face masks and maybe a staycation.

Expand full comment
Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

The people who won't vaccinate their kids don't believe in face masks, and a staycation is, somehow, a violation of their precious freedumb.

When I was a kid 50+ years ago I didn't know any kids with autism and only one with asthma.

I knew plenty of kids who were very weird or got curiously obsessive about one particular thing and loads of kids with weak chests.

Its called diagnosis.

Exactly right, and it's why my brother was relentlessly bullied in high school, and it's why the school responded by pressuring my parents to pull him out. Shitheads, the lot of them.

I just tried to post a reply to a non-comment on the post that appeared AFTER this post entitled "Republicans On Sunday Shows Say Everything's Fine, Questioning Dear Leader's Whims Very Rude" and I got a popup that says "Only paid subscribers can comment on this post."

That's never happened to me before on Wonkette, and it's only happening on that one article by Michael Mora. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It's what happens when the author isn't paying attention before they hit "Submit" because Substack always defaults to "Only paid subscribers can comment".

Grandpa Whale Decapitator can fuck all the way off. DH was born blind from rubella and is probably autistic. You know how we think the latter? Suspected it for years from noting the similarities between diagnosed autistics and himself. Then our son got tested for it last summer and received the formal diagnosis. Be damned if damn near every question that applied to Son applied to his father, too, only he was often even more so. The CDC discovered rubella viruses in his cataract material when that was removed in the 70s. His current glaucoma is a complication that used to be relatively common.

Oh, and speaking of the idiocy of the current administration, he has held down a full time job for the last 20 years, on a team where he's the only disabled member. He's the one they go to when they have questions. All this while being considered a DEI hire.

my mother worked in what was then called "special needs" in schools for 35 years. She was there for the big bubble in new autism diagnoses. I remember when the rumors were flying around that it was caused by thimerosol, or whatever the flavor of the month was. I brought it up to her and she said, you know, we meet their parents. That's where it's from, the parents. That was probably around 2005.

Yep. I suspect my kid's teacher suspects I have undiagnosed ADHD; I can be highly distractible and go off on tangents a lot and I bring my knitting everywhere because otherwise I fidget too much. lol

I don't know if either of DH's parents have/had ASD (one died last summer,) though congenital rubella can cause it. It wouldn't surprise me if his father had ADHD, tho, like his brother. If FIL did have ASD, it was really mild. I truly doubt MIL has either, even accounting for the different manifestation most women show; spent a lot of time with her while DH & I were dating, and I became family long before it was official.
