Well he has to know the enemy! I'm sure he read The Art of War and all.

Perfect user name for this subject btw.

We should probably think about banning Gone With the Wind. The main character sleeps with everyone but Mammy(allegedly, it would be irresponsible not to speculate that she might have).

I was fortunate enough that my high school had Sci Fi Literature as an option, as well as Film As Literature(I never did read Citizen Kane). Most SciFi books are only depressing when you analyze them and find the underlying themes.

The fuck? Let's ban the bible, it's chock full of deviant sexual content: Genesis 19:30-38, Genesis 35:22, 2 Samuel 16:22, Ezekiel 23:20, I could go on....

Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and Davidson?

The Old North State can be criticized for lots of things, but we have books.

Now, South Carolina is a whole 'nother story. Patron Saint of Charleston Pat Conroy excepted, of course.

This guy probably dresses in the closet and takes a shower in the dark! Anyone who has a initial for a first name shouldn't be allowed to be in public, without two grown adults supervising his every move!

I just... I really don't understand the whole banning books thing. And the ironic part is that a lot of the same people screeching about "offensive" books in public schools are the same people scoffing at concepts like safe spaces and trigger warnings.

Back in the day when I did a lot of traveling I was never disappointed by how obnoxious the average American tourist is.

Agreed. The bible is probably the best case of a book negatively influencing people. How many people have suffered and continue to suffer as a direct result of someone following the bible? Clearly it's just too dangerous to allow people access to it.

A little late... Actually, "It was a dark and stormy night..." was a perfectly good opening and the sentence does a wonderful job of setting the scene:

It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the house-tops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.Sounds really good to me! Also see Dan H's 2012 refutation of various criticisms, "The Rain Fell in Torrents - Except at Occasional Intervals".

My fundie crazy brother-in-law won't let his kids watch Disney because he finds the standard princess plot of an older man being attracted to an obviously underaged girl.

Grrr. Isabel Allende spoke at my college graduation (we had her and Dr. Mathilde Krim), and a more thoughtful, gentle, humble speaker would be hard to find.

J. Todd Chasteen, on the other hand, seems to divide his time between making self-aggrandizing speeches and making his no-no bits tingle by counting the number of naughty words in any book he can get his hands on.

Doesn't like the thought of a male attracted to a younger female, eh?

So what's your brother-in-law think of Josh Duggar?
