This is so wrong. Of course the Republicans don't want anyone to vote. They know that in a fair election they would lose because they don't want anyone else to collect their hard earned tax money. The idea is: "Tell people what YOU want them to hear, then get into office so you can collect that paycheck, then switch the bait to cause as many problems that you will not solve, and tel them to stick their complaints where the sun doesn't shine." Yep. That sounds about right for the Trump/Elon Republican Party. No longer Conservative, just Thieves. It isn't the Federal Bureaucracy that is full of Waste, Fraud, and Abuse, it is the Republican Party
Jesus they are going to take away women's right to vote. I mean Vance has already advocated for it. You know project 2025 authors would love to disenfranchise all women. With republicans in house and congress refusing to do fuckall about anything it is going to happen.
This article about the SAVE act is such a great description of what is happening in NH. It should not be this difficult to vote. The many voter suppression bills in NH don’t get much coverage nationally. NH Republicans are very fluent in the Trump voter fraud accusations playbook.
Republicans won a large majority in the House and are recycling a large variety of voter suppression bills (and anti-science bills) which failed during the last legislative session. They have thrown in a few new permutations this time around and are replicating the Trump playbook in general. Same talking points.
That is what Republicans do when they take a state over. They make it very difficult for opposition to even vote so they can retain power despite how they are about to dismantle your entire state and sell it for parts. See too: Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio...et al.
Expect horrifically underfunded schools (except in majority white republican areas of course) an increase of jail for petty crimes of the "I smelled marijuana while pulling you over for a busted tail light" variety, and gerrymandering out the wazoo.
I've spent probably too much money to hire a lawyer to get my name legally changed, only because I'm one of those people who's parents named me with a first name that was never actually used. So my real life has everything with my middle name/last name, but only now with Real IDs and the dawning of the SAVE Act has it been an issue. My ID matches my voter ID, but now it will need to match my birth certificate or passport, so nothing is right. It has been an effort and money that a ton of people can't spend, so I know that it's a) only a woman thing and b) they don't care if we can vote or not. Just start doing what you need to do now if you want to continue voting.
I, too, have a first name that has never been used. I don't even go by my middle name—what I've always gone by (Dina) is a nickname. Everything that is considered "legal" stuff is always in my real first name. I ran into problems with my first job when they had me on the books as "Dina" and I eventually heard from the Social Security Administration that my name didn't match my SS number. Life was much simpler in the '80s—all I did was wrote a letter explaining it to SSA and the IRS that "Dina" and "Geraldine" are actually the same person and I never had any problems, not even after three marriages. I'm guessing something that "complex" would never fly with Republicans these days.
Ta, Robyn. My last name is now a hyphenate. It's on our marriage certificate, and on Valentine's Day I went downtown to the Social Security office to begin the process of a legal name change by linking my last name at birth to my husband's last name with a hyphen. The new card was mailed to me already; it's safe at home. My new checks have my new last name. When I go to the DMV to change it on my non-driver state ID, I'll be asked on the form if I want to register to vote, I'll change my name on the voting roles, too. The last step is a petition to the court. I already had to do a name change once before; the Bureau of Vital Statistics gave me three Es instead of an I between two Es (which is how it appeared on the hospital certificate) on my birth certificate, so I changed it for the correct spelling. I have all the documents.
New York will never make it difficult for me to vote.
i was married in 1969, and in those days one didn't think much about it, at least here in the midwest. but because my name was misspelled on the marriage certificate (and michigan refused to correct it), i faced a real problem when i applied for social security a few years back. fortunately, a lovely SSA lady in kansas (?) accepted other paperwork from me and we moved on.
there was no need for such nonsense, but women have to be considered property, of course.
(edit: I should have mentioned that i'm divorced; otherwise, i should have had no problems at all)
i point blank asked the young librarian if she's married, which was really none of my business. (she isn't, and won't change her name if she does get married)
this all started when i (thought i) overheard a guy having difficulty getting paperwork for his wife because they didn't have something or other for her (no problem for him of course), and because the librarian was asking to take a photo, i guess it must have been for a passport. it got me riled, and i couldn't keep my mouth shut. that happens way more often now that i'm old and have far fewer fucks to give.
"It’s hard to see what this is accomplishing, other than making it a pain in the ass to vote..."
That's the entire point.
Photo selection is excellent. I have my halloween costume for next year
"...undocumented immigrants really aren’t lining up to put themselves and their families at risk of deportation just to barely have their vote count."
This is an argument I use all the time. The answer I get is "That's not true!" It's really a fact -
you can't fix stupid.

It’s not going well!
It's not? Suppressing the vote was their aim. Seems it is working well for them
Isn't knowing something intuitively like having a concept of a plan?

Why isn't voting considered speech?
The voters don't have the money today for it.

Good advice, whoneedsit.
NAZIGOP 4th REICH HATE WOMEN.
How may ways must they demonstrate this?

Petition the court? Damn.
Thank God I never took my ex's name.
Then kick that shitty state out of our union
We can't. It votes Democratic.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHH, LADIES, NEVER CHANGE YOUR NAME. IF YOU DID, GET THEE TO A PROBATE COURT AND DO THE NAME CHANGE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never have I been so glad that I didn't change m name when I married my late ex-husband in the 70s!
i was married in 1969, and in those days one didn't think much about it, at least here in the midwest. but because my name was misspelled on the marriage certificate (and michigan refused to correct it), i faced a real problem when i applied for social security a few years back. fortunately, a lovely SSA lady in kansas (?) accepted other paperwork from me and we moved on.

It's sickening, isn't it? I don't belong to any man so these creeps can just bugger off!
True that!
This is the future. I would advise any woman getting married to keep her name.
i was just ranting about this in the public library an hour ago
Good. I hope someone who needed to hear you, heard you.

I personally find the lack of filters in my old age, to be freeing!
It'd really save time if they hurried up and outlawed voting entirely.
they have already talked about outlawing women to vote.
It's gaining traction.
SO IS the PURGE the PATRIARCHY UNDERGROUND. Our RAGE is EXPONENTIALLY more voluminous than their delusional entitlement.
I hope so.
