In a close election, any single factor is a sufficient cause. But Bernie's prolonged savaging of Hillary, and of most of the Democratic party in general, is the factor that lingers to this day as the principal threat to keep Trump in office for four more years. The best thing that Bernie supporters could do for this country would be to shut up.

Trump supplies eyeballs to the media. Media operations are businesses that rely on advertising. The US media loves Trump, just as pro wrestling fans love a villain. Trump is, of course, in the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame (true fact).
