New Restaurant in Old Town Alexandria Replaces Crappy Indian Restaurant
Indian restaurants in D.C. tend to be cheap n’ forgettable (Naan and Beyond, Taste of India) or good, but unbearably expensive (The Bombay Club). Thankfully, there’s a new restaurant in town that doesn’t seem to fall into either of those categories: Raw Silk. It just opened up in Old Town Alexandria this week, and offers traditional North Indian fare in a modern lounge setting.
Chowhound reviewer Sweth says Raw Silk “replaces the execrable and insipid Taj Palace” and gave it a thumbs up, but who knows whether it’s because Taj Palace sucked in comparison or because Raw Silk is a genuinely good place to eat. Figure it out yourself -- Raw Silk is participating in Alexandria’s Inaugural Restaurant Week (till Jan. 25), which means that you can get an appetizer, entrée and dessert for just $35.
Co-owner Darun Chopra recommends the chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo and the mango tequila, which you should try during Raw Silk’s happy hour, because appetizers are half price!
