It's the descriptor * Pro-Israel * Hawk that disturbs me. To me, stating that you are "Pro-Israel" means you are supporting a Genocide. I've seen mental illness up close and Fetterman seems to be having serious manic-depressive symptoms.

My speculation is that John Fetterman has always been a "go with your gut" kind of decision maker, and if he has been having the cognitive decline that he seems it is going to show up immediately as his "gut" becomes irrational. There are likely to be inexplicable shifts that have no rational connection with previous behavior. But he won't be reasoned with because his feelings tell him otherwise.

Who is taking care of John Fetterman? I think it's clear that he needs some serious mental health care, but I also think it's clear that certain dishonest people are taking advantage of his weakness.

It sounds to me as if he is off his meds, or needs a re-evaluation of his meds. Or it could be more serious brain damage that would make it impossible for him to hold public office. Mental illness in itself is not necessarily a barrier to holding a job, even a public position, as long as it’s being properly treated. The public needs to know the truth, as much as possible without exposing personal medical information. It appears Fetterman is at the point where he’s a danger to himself and others. If that’s the case, he will need to step down. Josh Shapiro will appoint a replacement to serve out his term, so the Dems will not lose the seat.

Whenever I hear some ostensible Democrat talking about his fear of being "canceled," I feel certain that they are going over to the other side. It's just such a BS thing to say. Then they start babbling about "wokeness," and pretty soon they're basically MAGA Wingnuts, or something damn close to it.

He needs to be primaried, clearly.

Sounds like amphetmine psychosis to me. The lot of them are a bunch of speed freaks (exactly like the Germans of 1930's: the wonder drug Pervitin), so it's not surprising Fetterman, too, has fallen under the spell.

Kinda strange that having a TIA or a stroke ends up consistently being your first step of a downward spiral into MAGATUDE. As a downthread poster said loss or lack thereof of higher brain function tends to make you a right wing nutjerb. Huh. Maybe more MAGAT politicians have more serious brainworm infestations than we realize?

NY Mag didn't ask. They told you. They're right. Fetterman had a bad stroke and he is profoundly impaired intellectually and emotionally as a result. He will not get meaningfully better. He should be collecting SSDI and rocking on a porch. His presence in Congress is sad, just sad.

sad to see. Someone who is entirely worthy of support can become ill and no longer be a person suitable of the same support. If the reports are true it is kind to John and all concerned to enable him to step down with dignity.

Hey NYMag, I hear you like Jonathan Chait. Maybe you could get him to write an article about how being a U.S. Senator is a dangerous untested medical treatment that no one can possibly know the longer-term effects of, and that maybe the government should ban Senators to protect Parents' Rights.

“Hope he’s okay and taking care of himself.“ He’s obviously not ok.

There's just too much scary shit going on with Fetterman. He should be removed from office, primaried or by some other legal means. He should not be in politics, period.

Unfortunately the spineless DNC will have to primary him.

For his sake and the party.

We will see if they actually do it.

Spineless, impotent DNC will absolutely not primary him. Besides, he will be full MAGA by 2028.

Which is why they will, hopefully, primary him.

If the DNC refuses to support him, that may work. But only if he bows out.

So many unknowns.

He needs to step down but my guess is his next move is to switch to Independent and caucus with Rethugs.

The longer I'm alive the more I believe that electing someone should involve a contract - they state what their positions are on a host of subjects and promise to advance those policies and if they break that contract then a special election will be held and they can't run.

Fuck this "I changed my mind" shit from pols - this is a job and you have to perform or you are out. It doesn't matter if it's health related or just plain moneygrubbing - change your tune and you are gone.

They swear to uphold the Constitution, which is their "contract." But so many of them violate this oath.
