Over the weekend, the New York Times released its big investigative report on the September 11, 2012, attack on the diplomatic compound in Benghazi. The article by David Kirkpatrick suggested that several aspects of the rightwing narrative don't hold water -- particularly the claims that the "Innocence of Muslims" video had nothing to do with the attack, that the attack had been planned far in advance, and that it was an al Qaeda operation. The thorough report led critics of the Obama administration to say, "Ah, we see. Well, so much for that, then. So maybe it wasn't Watergate plus Pearl Harbor times 9/11 after all."
I have a friend who is on the far fringes of wingnuttery, which I mostly let slide because his severe paranoia is 99% PTSD (from 2 tours with the Marines in a very bad part of the Vietnam War) and 1% having grown up in Berwyn, IL. My all-time favorite exchange with him had to do with a manuscript I was helping him with, and was prompted by a) me fixing some punctuation and grammar; and b) him knowing I'm a liberal.
Him: You've been putting secret leftwing messages into my manuscript.
Me (mystified): Show me where those bits are and I'll take them out.
Him: I can't! They're secret, so I don't know where they are.
As the philosopher said: If I hadn't believed it with my own mind, I never would have seen it.
Partly because I always blame Nixon, but mostly because the right wing learned one and only one lesson from Watergate: That if you keep yammering one word over and over and over, apparently it eventually leads to a Congressional investigation, and then the president (innocent though he is) resigns.
So though they know there's no basis for their Benghazi claims, they also know it doesn't matter a whit.
Sadly, it almost worked with both Bill Clinton and Obamacare. This is how losers fight a rearguard action as they go down to defeat.
“Guys were coming into the compound, moving left, moving right…" Do the Hockey-Pokey. And that's what it's all about.
Joe Wilson says "You Issa"! Has a nice ring to it.
But, does it blend?
I find this English language so confusing. Oversight = overlooking? Or did I get that wrong again?
benghazi is the house of atreus.
The derp is strong in this one.

When you put that volume of information, I think that proves that that story’s just not accurate.

Um. So, is the House Intelligence Committee getting too much information, or not enough?
If I can't trust what Issa says about burning down the mission, whom can I trust?

Just what this country needs, more Congressional oversight.
Totally worth it, though.
Show us the birth certificate and everything will be fine.
Poser!
"Son, Obamacare was shoved down your throat and you didn't even know it!"

Just what did the Arkansas state troopers say?
