I thought about this, but they didn't all vote for Elder. There were some moderate conservatives on the ballot - so it's not all 100% bat shit fruit loops cuckoo crazy-beans.

The most fundemental mistake was taking polling at face value. All the "Newsom could lose this" narratives were based on the nearly-equal breakdown of "likely voters." WTF does that even mean, with California having gone over to 100% mail-in as a Pandemic measure?

The folks who are measuring Trumpism's legs in 2022 and 2024 will most certainly be paying attention. The problem is, the GOP can't extricate itself from Trump - the loudest fringe won't let them and they have nothing at all to offer in its place.

The recall law should require that to recall a governor, the amount of signatures collected in favor should be greater than 50% of the average voter turnout.
