Like it or not, we need good police officers. There are too many who make things worse, or at best refuse to stop illegal action coming from a certain segment of the political spectrum. Set higher standards, require ideologically neutral performance and get rid of the ones for whom that's too much to ask.

My vote yesterday went to Campbell, Wu just seemed too...cookie cutter and safe for me. Very much a politician. While Essabi-George lives in and has her adobs little sewing/knitting store in my neighborhood, her husband is a big realestate investor who is currently ripping up my section of Dot and has had complains lodged against his company for improper access to planning and approvel boards because Essabi- George was on the City Council. Wu will get my vote

So it depends on if your definition of progressive includes "basic fundamental human rights". I happen to think that not wanting to be murdered or imprisoned by a carceral state is as progressive as wanting your college debt forgiven.

Advocating for safe communities is *no less progressive* than advocating for equitable economic policies.

And in fact many people perceive a "progressive" movement that defines minimum wage as a core progressive value but dismisses concerns about systematic state violence because that violence is predominantly directed at black people as racist. Others perceive a movement that dismisses the decision of the state to force women to bear children as the opposite of progressive & as fundamentally profoundly sexist; for example, a "progressive" movement that dismisses the critical role of women's health as identity politics in their strident demands for universal healthcare as ONLY acceptable in the form of M4A. (Medicare does not pay for abortion except to save the life of the mother.)

A willingness to destroy the country and the party is fascist, and neither of us thinks fascism is progressive. People who advocate for mass death of the vulnerable because other people are inadequately pure are not progressive. They are authoritarian and have a deep and profound contempt for democracy.

So, in summary, I think your comment about what it means to "progressive" truly illustrates what people who have been fighting for actual progress our entire lives find odious and contemptible about Bernie's/JusticeDems putative claims to be the real progressives -- as odious as racism and sexism from the republicans.

The assist in electing Trump is the proverbial icing on the cake.

I think he meant a choice between fascism and anarchy versus meaningful change. Either that or he is a right wing babbling idiot.

I really don't get how some folks were shocked that many of us didn't like Nina Turner after some of the stuff she said and did.
