We totally need an adventure film or streaming series of this glorious bad-assed woman. And I would love a woman to produce it, or direct it, or DP it, or edit it, or cast it, or all of the above, because DAY-um woman! AND you should have been put on the $20 bill in 2021! This is the Nice Times I needed, along with the Sandy Hook families and the Onion triumphing over Alex Jones. The haka from the NZ Parliament was also good. More please!
Now wait for the governors and congresses of Texas, Alabama, Georgia and Florida to approve school textbooks describing Tubman as a bandit and terrorist.
A retired professor of American history told me that she had dent on her head resulting from an iron tool that an overseer three at a male slave who ducked. She used that to pretend to be retarded, so confederates talked freely around her.
"Much of this illegal behavior was facilitated by the fundamental sketchiness of cryptocurrencies as an asset class. The value of crypto token can be placed anywhere. They don’t produce income like bonds, and their prices can’t be pegged to liquid markets like those of public company securities. To this day, no one has ever explained what cryptocurrencies are useful for, other than paying ransom to crooks holding databases or computer systems hostage."
Indeed. The problem is, millions of people interface with the feds--its functioning plays a critical--and direct--role in real lives across the country. Treating it like a Twitter thread or 4chan board will have catastrophic consequences.
I just keep hoping that's an accurate assessment of the current proposed shit show cabinet. But at this point the Depraved Despot has cognitively deteriorted SO much and harbors ALL encompassing hatred and resentment for actions taken against him over the past four years.
I am not convinced that he's just fucking with us.
Ah, for those of us on ADP, it's a three paycheck month (yay) which, for me, will go to taking Termite and Tuna-Boy to the vet and paying property taxes. Yay for being a responsible adult.
Well, they cut down a tree and all the bushes outside my condo building which I have long hoped they would do, but because I live in a slumlord sithole, they haven't and likely won't pull up the stumps which makes the flower beds useless. The holly bushes out front were quite nice, in fact, but overgrown by some sort of weeds I kept trimming back.
Wanna know why we're in the shit we're in? We learned all this stuff about Harriet Tubman in 7th grade Am. History class--standard stuff. But it's been supplanted by 'LeArN tO cOdE to supercharge new drones for Elno's rocket shop and purveyors of fake currency. National FAFO.
When I went to college, I was shocked that my classmates had never heard of Wounded Knee.
Then shocked again when people right here never heard of the Tulsa masacre.
We learned about that stuff in grade school in the 80s. Not an indepth guide, mind, just a this happened and is part of the reason why we cannot let it happen again sort of deal. But we still covered it.
But, it does seem most people did not learn about this stuff, and that is way before computers were in every pocket
The difficulty with history in schools is 1. there is just so much of it, 2. state standards often require covering way too much of it in a single year and 3. those same state standards often encourage staying away from things that might upset some bigoted parents.
I went to a catholic school so while they adhered to state standards, at the time, they also did their own thing. Our day was a bit longer than the public day (by a class I think)
I just lucked out into the brand of nun we had, they were the solidarity sorts so we learned a lot of Peace and Justice stuff
And 5. when there is no suitable history teacher to be found, some schools have the meathead gym teacher who happens to have a history degree teach it.
Yep. I was often the only woman at board history teacher sessions, and also too one of the few who actually cared about social history rather than battles.
I really really wonder about how these home-schooled children will navigate their futures. At a minimum their lack of social skills will be huge problem.
A lot of home schooled kids are involved in group activities, so it's not social skills as such that can be the problem. Depending on the reason for home schooling, though, it's what kind of group activities - do they ever meet anyone who is not like them? Religious home schooling can mean that everything they do with other kids is with kids from the same religious background and that's a problem.
I have a couple of relatives currently being homeschooled who are playing sports with the other kids in town, doing equestrian events, participating in programs at the library, going to the pride march with their auntie, etc etc. I'm not that worried about their social skills.
I really lucked out, though at the time I sure wished I was in public school. They had more off days, and lots more people, and I was a bully target because I was a scholarship kid (and boy did they make my life hell. Learned super early that people were terrible things and it was best to avoid them.
Rather think it is why I prefer online communication. If I have too much I just...wander off and do something else, with no one following me about still going on and on.
Today is "Dress like a student day," so I'll get to see just how ridiculous my colleagues are willing to look to mock teenagers from dysfunctional families in a misogynistic and status-obsessed society. Fun.
My work clothes, like every other day. I participate in very few of these sorts of things, usually because I just don't have anything. (If it's something simple, like wear red, I'll wear my red shirt.) This one I wouldn't participate in even if I had something that would fit the theme.
I've thought about getting dressed up for Halloween, but when October comes around I've always got something more important to do with my money than buy a costume or bits to make my own.

How fucking dare you insult the fuck knuckles by elevating Andrew Jackson to their level.
Maryland also has a guide for exploring General Tubman’s secret trails, waterways, and safe houses - https://www.visitmaryland.org/scenic-byways/harriet-tubman-underground-railroad?adara_campaignid=957109633&adarapixelid=278319&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADurRmqkrOE0nRqxrSxKLvpW0Cv0n&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_9u5BhCUARIsABbMSPuFputuiK9rXZPlxkbFl-CcDDyEGW7KZEcmZU86TaMSXo-QiXHSmjwaAhdOEALw_wcB

It is a vehicle for speculation, full stop.
Oh sorry, I DON'T know mideval Italian lit.
This monsters ball of a cabinet is being assembled to do things to outrage and troll the libs. I feel so honored.
Indeed. The problem is, millions of people interface with the feds--its functioning plays a critical--and direct--role in real lives across the country. Treating it like a Twitter thread or 4chan board will have catastrophic consequences.

I am not convinced that he's just fucking with us.
The hope is that they will spend their time grifting, rather than fucking up the lives of vulnerable people.
No he does intend to take real revenge. But he has the attention span of a gnat and hires incompetent boobs so here’s hoping
Didn't like most his last cab last like a month tops and or get arrested?
Bingo if this gets somebody out of the senate or house of representatives just to blow up in six weeks, I call it a win
JD Vance vs a warm bucket of spit? You make the call.
currently he is only picking critters in very very very safe seats, but he'll run through those like water, judging from his last go around
Yes, it was very unstable like him

That drive back home from the vet may require ear protection.
He rides in a bag, fortunately.
A soundproof bag?
The cat's in the bag?

The stumps cost less to maintain. End of landlord's analysis.

That stuff hurts white kids' feefees, so no more of *that.*
When I went to college, I was shocked that my classmates had never heard of Wounded Knee.

No doubt. This was in the late '70s.
I went to a catholic school so while they adhered to state standards, at the time, they also did their own thing. Our day was a bit longer than the public day (by a class I think)
I just lucked out into the brand of nun we had, they were the solidarity sorts so we learned a lot of Peace and Justice stuff
Oh, and 4. the most reactionary people drawn to teaching as a profession are quite often history teachers.
And 5. when there is no suitable history teacher to be found, some schools have the meathead gym teacher who happens to have a history degree teach it.
A history degree??? Fancy!!
Yep. I was often the only woman at board history teacher sessions, and also too one of the few who actually cared about social history rather than battles.

:hugs: That is so upsetting.

History Class? Just another source of that Fake News.
Today is "Dress like a student day," so I'll get to see just how ridiculous my colleagues are willing to look to mock teenagers from dysfunctional families in a misogynistic and status-obsessed society. Fun.
"Hello, fellow kids!"
I hated those theme days.
...aren't the dress like days supposed to be for students?
Most are. Some of my colleagues talked themselves into doing this one.
Ah.
That is sad.
Being a teacher is sort of a sad state.
Beloved husband Meccalopolis is a teacher. The kids are lucky to have him; the school more so.
BITE your tongue!
Teachers are among my heroes. I LOVE learning new things and am always delighted to encounter learned educators able to further expand my mind.
I will defend and HAIL teachers to my LAST breath.
I meant being one.
What are you going to wear?
My work clothes, like every other day. I participate in very few of these sorts of things, usually because I just don't have anything. (If it's something simple, like wear red, I'll wear my red shirt.) This one I wouldn't participate in even if I had something that would fit the theme.
I was like that when I taught. My costume for Halloween was always "teacher."
I've thought about getting dressed up for Halloween, but when October comes around I've always got something more important to do with my money than buy a costume or bits to make my own.
I vote bobby sox.
