One of the few chuckles I got early Tuesday evening was seeing a chyron on MSNBC after the polls closed, showing that DC had been called for Kamala - even tho' the chyron showed 0% reporting. That's some campaign ( I guess DC eventually went some 90%+ for Kamala )

We are in a different position now than we were 8 years ago. Back then we hoped Trump would understand the gravitas of the presidency and the mantle of leadership and service to the country that was being bestowed upon him. He never stepped up. He dragged others down to his level. Now, we know him for what he is: a coward, a liar, a criminal, lazy and willfully ignorant. We will fight against him and any and all policies and efforts which do not align with democracy, tolerance, acceptance, public mindedness, and principles and values of what it truly means to be an American.

Some people he will be bringing into his administration will quickly get dismissed as they outshine Trump, because he cannot stand that. His short attention span will be even shorter this time. He also might exhibit health problems which keep him from serving his entire term. Many people and organizations have already developed battle plans for resisting his administration and will not be caught on their heels. All is not lost.

Maybe you don’t suck balls Marcie, but many of your readers do. Wonketteers could use a staff retreat with a facilitator who will explain why deploying “suck” as pejorative is misogynistic, homophobic, and anti-infant, tacitly denigrating the entire straw-using population.

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.

Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered…Full of darkness, and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why.

But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?

Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo...and it's worth fighting for.

THAT is going to be an epic fight. Those right wing piss babies will bring all their same tired rhetoric to play, further disgracing the hall of government.

She's a groomer

She's a pedohpile

Pretending she's not speaking

Kicking her off committees

Anything they can t oback seat her so that their base doesn't have to acknowledge her existance.

I just checked WA state elections and it looks like the Dems are going to sweep the state offices. Fingers crossed for Gluesenkamp-Perez hanging on to district 3. I really need some bright spots right now.

What Charlie Pierce said: https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a62831090/america-corporate-oligarchy-democracy/

.

For too many Americans, they'd rather have someone to blame than live up to what we are supposed to be. For too many, they'd rather have bread and circuses and a tyrant than a real country. Somehow I have to explain to my child tonight WTAF and how should we live now. I've been home alone crying and screaming and doing everything except reaching for a bottle of booze. Checking in with loved ones, especially younger ones, who are putting on a brave face and going to school or going to work. I wish I had the answers.

.

Watched Kamala's speech, she said what she had to say. Trump never came up directly. Hearts are broken. Faith has been shattered. Will we live to fight another day? Dunno. Oligarchy is really hard to kill and it doesn't stay dead. The anguish and resentment at having no hope for my own generation, and wondering what fresh hell is in store for the next...no words. The fact that the first female President, if there still is a Presidency in the future, could come from the Repugnicans? That right there is salt rubbed into the wounds. So many countries have had female leaders, some worthy of note--but not here. I'll probably never see a female Prez or have full human rights in the remainder of my life. So the consolation prize is that I fight, or resist, for the rights of the next generations. Boo-ya!

I just went through a deep downward spiral about how to survive a pollical, social and economic collapse. I considered various strategies about asset distributions, selling my vacation home, maybe buy gold, TIPS and I-Bonds, etc. When I hit the point of considering buying a years worth of MRE/camping food I shook myself out of it. (I did say I went deep). After much consideration ,my conclusion was to buy a nice bottle of whiskey for tonight and several large bottles that I'll keep for an exit party should things completely collapse. Anyone want to buy a 4 bedroom home on the Cape? Comes with water views and deeded beach access.
