Meanwhile, just days before her Senate confirmation vote, Dear Leader pulled back Super MAGA Genius Elsie Stefanik as UN Ambassador. Nobody's admitting, but it's likely because they need her vote from her beet red upstate NY Congressional district and were afraid they'd lose the special if the damn Guv even stopped slow-walking holding it.

The most important thing in the universe to most politicians is keeping their own jobs. I think that, leaving out stupidity and sheer meanness, that is the main reason why Repub politicians suck up to trumpy and to rich donors. I have to wonder, though, at what point they might waver if Dems keep winning post trumpy 2.0 elections.

Nice to hear that some voters have roused themselves from their slumber and recognized that we are on the cusp of becoming an honest-to-God pariah-nation.

Morning spuggers, all well? Cool and damp here with the occasional spot of rain. Calm sea this morning and a row with one of my regatta crews which went really well. Which it should since it is 3/4 of last year's crew. Much calmer than late yesterday evening when the wind had picked up and it was choppy, a lot of fun but not much use for technical training.

In other news Substack accept I'm not a spammer or phisher so I can go back to my old handle, assuming I remember the log in.

Project 2025 specifically tells their people to use ‘Signal’ to avoid subpoenas…and hence, prosecution for the crimes they are blatantly committing.

Ummm…yeah.

Any Questions?!

The right takeover, brought down because they were sponsored by Signal.

Oh please, they’re way too fucking stupid to figure out where a car was “built” or where the parts came from.

VaselineHabits's avatar

I always imagined if America got someone as crazy as Trump, there would be plenty of sane people to do what needed to be done to stop him

That idea was shattered in 2021 and just shat all over in the years since.

Ummm, the first digit of the VIN says which country your car was made in.

eppe's avatar

That must be where it was finally assembled. I'll bet more than half the parts in many of them come from elsewhere.

Bradthe🤖's avatar

True, but foreign brands assembled here count as “made in America” even if lots of parts weren’t.

tek's avatar

yes, but that's final assembly..

Wonder what "foreign parts content" is allowed.

too, also, what about leases? which seems to be how most people 'buy' a car these days..

OH you know the Social Security fucktassle?

Well, it's bit the husband. Gave him a whole week to Prove His Identity on the online system, only, it claimed it could not verify he was alive, so he has to go in person now. Not sure if he ever made the appointment last night because I went to bed about 10ish. By that time he had been on the phone for 3 hours, with the thing saying how he could do everything online! Every two minutes.

Apparently you can do everything online but make an appointment? That makes sense.

The FuckBros did a little walk back last night so instead of having to prove your self alive by April 1, they gave the olds 2 weeks. How nice of them.

Stulexington's avatar

Another trait of the rich, businesses take months to get around to paying their debts but ordinary citizens better be able to do thing by the end of the week.

Three of my friends are on SSI and SSDI. I worry about them.

Bradthe🤖's avatar

So far no threats here. 🤞

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

yeah his came out of the blue, like on monday. They just said he had to notify him that he was still alive because reasons and things and told him to go online to do it.

The real kicker is that they do not TELL them they have to call to make an appointment. You click the link to make an appointment and it takes you to the page where you can find your local....but then goes on about using the online system. It lists the 800 number but does not specify that is how you do it. He wasted an hour or two trying to figure it out until I just called the number.

It's so super good for olds who don't understand tech.

Craig Nixon's avatar

how was he notified about this? Asking cuz I'm on SSDI myself, and since my mailbox is too far to walk, and I never get anything of import, it's often 6 weeks between trips to get the paper mail...

Linda1961 is woke and proud's avatar

That is both insane and inefficient.

Bradthe🤖's avatar

The DOGE kiddies find it efficient. Because the goal is to kick people off of SS.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

they're hoping olds will just give up and die I am guessing. There's no other excuse for all of this AFTER the cuts made to offices and staff that could have handled the influx.

They did walk back the medicare/poors/disabled people having to show up i person though. But retirees/survivors et al have to prove they're not dead

Nailed it in one, Malone.

I know politicos gots to say things like this, the kumbaya not all Republicans shit I mean, but lordy.... it was their bigotry that got them voting for Trump. There's no other reasonable explanation other than "they're fucking morons" but being a fucking moron does not preclude bigotry.

Linda1961 is woke and proud's avatar

Being a moron makes you more likely to be a bigot. It's rooted in the fear that "The Other" is really better and smarter than you are, so you puff up your chest, and proclaim that YOU, simply by being in your group, is inherently superior to others.

With diesel-soaked hay and plenty of space to operate, Los Angeles firefighters last week set fire to a danger that had been secretly building in Pacoima.

For an unknown period of time, authorities say, a 24-year-old man had been accumulating a massive cache of fireworks in a rear home off Remington Street that, for reasons still to be determined, suddenly detonated last week, exploding out in all directions. The man, who has not yet been identified, was hospitalized with burns over 50% of his body and faces possible charges when he's released, authorities say.

What was left under the rubble was a toxic stew of chemicals that authorities said could react unpredictably with water and was too dangerous to simply haul away.

It had to be burned.

"This is essentially a bomb," Kenneth R. Cooper, special agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Los Angeles field office, told reporters Friday. "We are going to use fire, slow methodic burn to alleviate that threat to public safety."

Firefighters soaked hay in diesel fuel, then set fire to what remained of the unattached home that evening in a "controlled burn." The pile eventually exploded in a dazzling array of white sparks.
