What I find interesting is that while Haley lostm she got 46% of the vote. While in Iowa 49% of caucusers votes for someone other than the Orange Felon. For all of Trump's claims of being the inevitable candidate there are a lot of Republicans voting against him.

It doesn't matter a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys whether she wins SC or not. Trump's getting convicted, and he is going to lose. All she has to do is not quit.

Even IF all that happens, She will NOT get the nod from the GQP RNC......they will get together, just like the 'good ole days' and select a white, male (probably former or present Governor) who is none of these twits.......select a white, female running mate, and it's off to the insult ball........

They won't have time.

I guarantee they already have a game-plan on the books .........not the Bimbo from Bamberg......the big money donors and the GQP RNC........they're not about to let their prized grifter go down without a back-up.......follow the money Labowski.......I hope to Dawg you are correct and they will be is complete disarray when the verdicts come in.....but I also think they've got a bigger, better, insurrection game-plan ready to go.......

They are not going to be able to control the voters. The exodus from Trump is already started, and he ain't getting them back. The tipping point will occur before the convention. and there will be much gnashing of teeth and consuming Dixie cups of Jim Jones Punch. They hate chicks, but they will have no choice. It's going to be glorious.

He may not get convicted before the general election. He might not even be tried by then, and if he wins, he'll pardon himself. It's possible he could get convicted in GA, but that case doesn't seem to be moving along too fast.

Tomorrow SCOTUS throws out his immunity claim. then on March 4, it's UNITED STATES OF AMERICA v. DONALD J. TRUMP in DC, which he is going to lose.

Ta, Stephen. I look forward to SC as well.

Biden wasn’t even on the ballot but he still won by a wider margin than Trump did. Nobody in the media is talking about that.

The interesting thing is that, if Trump isn't the nominee for whatever reason, there's no fallback plan. No one wants DeSantis. Nikki Haley is a woman of color. The rest of the party has been beclowning itself to gain Trump's favor, and the members of their own party don't consider them qualified to be president.

Sure, you can count on the party faithful pulling the lever for whoever has an R after their name, but you've got to have a name before that R.

I think everyone who avoided the race in 2024 (arguably wisely) would scramble to replace Trump, especially during a brokered convention. It would be a variation of the House Speaker follies.

I want it to go 100 contentious ballots, with some fistfights or maybe even gunfights on the convention floor.

I know we hate Nikki but we need to get enough people to like her to stop Trump

Biden stops Trump *and* preserves our civil rights. Haley can't do either.

We really should be the ones advocating for death from carbon monoxide poisoning under a Mitt Romney / Nicki Haley style republican party vs napalm death by trump regime.

The pamphlet for prospective republican voters should be “How Best To Die In A Fire”.

Oh c'mon. The lady knows from bloodbaths. And in any case, it took only nine massacred Black church worshippers to get her to take down the flag. Why, she might have done it if it had been only eight. Or even seven.

Not six or fewer, though. Let's be reasonable.

(Sorry if that's too flippant too soon. Some days that's pretty much the only way to deal with my rage at these idiots. And it's better than punching more holes in the drywall -- that shit is getting expensive to fix.)

"...our home state has a higher percentage of white evangelical voters than Iowa and fewer independents than New Hampshire. It’s an open primary state but no one in my family is voting for Nikki Scarlett O’Haley, not even “strategically.” They’re gonna vote for Joe Biden"

I also have seen that South Carolina is about 30% Black or mixed race, so one would think that "percentage of white evangelical voters" is a smaller bloc than one would think. As for it being an "open primary", one has to remember that the Democratic primary is Feb 3, while the Republican primary is Feb 24 - so I suspect that "crossover" votes might be less of a factor

I am continually amazed by the vitriol that that young woman attracts for speaking simple truths, backed with receipts.

Even if she never said anything, the fact she is a young attractive woman who wouldn't give those chuds the time of day also gets under their skin. It is truly crazy and scary how much vitriol she got from the jump and I can't even imagine how many death threats. I'm glad it's died down some (at least as far as I can tell) for her own safety and sanity.

All she has to do is stay in the race in case some combo of dementia, physical health and justice catch up with Trump before the convention. That's her bet.

Steve Kornacki pointed out the two essential points:

- She failed in even districts with higher education levels.

- Her margin of victory was solely among Independents.

That's the answer about Republican voting: Trump has a lock irrespective of sub-demographies that used to predict more centrism.

When she reaches actually-MAGA South Carolina she will splat into that like the bug on the windshield at the start of "Men in Black".

If Haley had a Sanders 2016 showing in New Hampshire, she would still go on to lose as decisively as he did once she confronts the actual party base, as Sanders did.

Expand full comment

Trump's base isn't going to settle for anyone else, it's a friggin cult. Once he secures the nom all the "not my preference but I want the Rs to win" types will fall in line as usual.

If Haley wins (ha!) the cult won't vote for her, they'll either write him in or stay home.
