Hilariously, though, the Haley PAC has spent absolutely nada, zilch, zero on attacking Trump, the clear frontrunner who is also facing 91 felony indictments across four different jurisdictions. That seems like a good place to invest her new Koch dollars.

I wonder if maybe it's not an investment for 2028 (or possibly even '32), rather than this cycle. I mean, unless they're blind they have to figure this cycle is a bust, unless PAB is in jail before November. PAB is going to coast to victory as the GQP candidate, and then he's (probably? hopefully?) going to lose again at the polls. Then after four more years for things to improve and people to forget how bad Rs are at running things, here's Reasonable Republican Haley stepping up to run against Harris (let's assume she wins the Democratic nomination). And if Haley wins the nomination, then hey -- if you're going to have to put up with having wimmen in charge either way, it might as well be one of your own, right?
Although I have to say, if it ends up with the current incarnation of the **Republican** party being the first to elect a WOC to the White House, my head just might 'spode.
Yeah, I'm sure Haley would beat Harris, but fortunately Haley would never make it through a GOP primary. Those days are done. We don't go back from Trump. The first non-Trump nominee could very well be Marjorie Taylor Greene or Chip Roy
Not to give Nikki TOO much credit but maybe somewhere in her (their collective) pea sized brain those that would usually vote GOP are actually growing weary of the party being known for nothing more than slinging mud. Everyone gets dirty and so far none of them are winning over the public.
Republican lawmakers are leaving the government. They all look like a bunch of dumb ass Keystone cops. They’re losing horribly at the polls. There has got to be some lightbulb over the head moment where they go, “Hey, this plan ain’t working anymore”.
As it’s said, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results and they’re not getting different results. Maybe we should try something a little bit better. Of course I’m probably giving them far, far too much credit.
Notice how she’s pretty cautious about her reply to reproductive rights?
Also too it should be noted that Koch hates Trump. Death Santis is even a worse choice for a Trump Antidote.
Funny how the RWNJ constantly bring up Soros who walks softly and carries a big stick but it’s perfectly fine for Koch to give to the extreme right. Somehow he’s not part of the deep state. I guess because he’s overt in his support.
Dems should keep their plans (of attack) quiet. The GOP have nothing and just try and copy Dems in an effort to win the game.
"[Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis are] both losing badly to Donald Trump, but that doesn’t seem to matter much to them. It’s almost like they’re pretending he’s not running at all. I wish we all had that luxury."
*** *** ***
It doesn't matter to them that Trump is going to win the Republican Presidential primary, because the fact is that they don't really care. This is the luxury that they have that decent people don't have: We care, but they don't.
Charles Koch, the lone surviving human steward of Koch Industries, a machine that will live forever until it is unplugged, does not care that Trump is going to win the Republican Presidential primary and does not care that no amount of Koch money is going to change that. The problem, for Koch Industries, is that there is at least an even chance that Trump will not beat Joe Biden in the general election. Eventually, the Republican Party and other immoral immortal institutions, including Koch Industries, will have to cope with the the fact that Trump, though immoral, is not immortal. This is why the Koch machine is subsidizing Nikki Haley. The Republican Party needs younger blood, and younger blood needs funding to remain visible while most of our nation's ruling oligarchs are over 70.
Why isn't the Koch machine supporting Ron DeSantis? I don't think it's because Koch Industries has a conscience. I think it's because the Koch machine recognizes Nikki Haley as someone who will obey the corporate oligarchy, whereas DeSantis obeys only his own barbaric urges.
The biggest challenge for today's oligarchs is that their ideology is antiquated -- and young people know it. It's pretty clear that Traditional Republican Policy, i.e.: deregulating the stock market, permitting concentration of wealth and power, reducing the responsibility of investors, and weakening the power of workers and consumers, was a stupid and destructive thing to do, even though no Republican will admit it. Traditional Republican Policy was sold one more time to the US-American people as "neo"-liberalism, with the help of some centrist Democrats, in the 1990s. But the US-American people are not buying it any more.
This is why Republicans lie. If they told the truth about what they are really offering, only rich oligarchs would vote for the Republican Party. So they have to make up sh*t and flood the broadcast media with it. Occasionally, they even have to enact the sh*t that they promote, and when they've already enacted so much sh*t that's so obviously sh*tty that they can't even disguise it anymore, they blame the Democrats for it, which is another lie.
This is why there is, for Republicans, no alternative to Trump. Even after Trump dies, they will have to keep selling Trumpism.
Hilariously, though, the Haley PAC has spent absolutely nada, zilch, zero on attacking Trump, the clear frontrunner who is also facing 91 felony indictments across four different jurisdictions. That seems like a good place to invest her new Koch dollars.
So the money people have settled on Haley as the "mainstream" Republican nobody except them wants. Understandable when you look at the cavalcade of losers that make up the rest of the candidates. The billionaires have their money bonfire candidate and the media have their contender against Fuckface so they can pretend that the result of the primary isn't a foregone conclusion.
At one time decades ago the NIT meant a little bit of prestige since each conference could only send one team to the NCAA, and that only had 16 slots. An upset in a conference tournament meant a top ranked team was not in the NCAA tournament. But as the NCAA tournament expanded, at least partially because it generated a ton of money, the NIT lost it's appeal to just about anyone except for die hard fans of the teams playing and maybe some bookies.
"An estimated $28 million has gone toward building Haley’s national brand — not the best return on investment"
Gotta disagree on that.
She may have been initially conned by grifty consultants into thinking that she could win now but she has to see that her game has shifted to 2028. Not-actually-stupid donors like the Kochs certainly do.
In 2028, the field is going to be Guv v. Guv, with popular Democratic governors like Newsome and Whitmer likely throwing in and red state governors pitching from their side. Haley will have the gubernatorial credentials but not a personal history of, say, signing an abortion ban or banning books.
She is currently creating a national profile of having opposed Trump that she hopes to ride in 2028 when - she thinks - the MAGA fever will have cooled. The money she collects now but does not spend she keeps and the persona she creates now she will ride on in donor circles for the next four years.
The only flaw in Gov. Baldrick's cunning plan is assuming that MAGAtism will go "poof", but that's a story for another day. As pure politics, she's playing for the future, as are the Kochs.
Nimarata will also have all the baggage she now has, which will be even heavier if PAB gets some convictions, and even a Michael Jackson bleach job won't hide her brown skin. The first woman President--especially a Rethug!--will NOT be a female of color. Also, her 'opposition' to PAB is virtually nonexistent, as the article states.
Honestly, not attacking Trump is a valid strategy if you think the courts will eliminate the problem. He's too hard to beat, so being in second position without alienating his base gives you a shot if he is jailed or otherwise out of the picture
That's what I've been saying this whole time (so you're obviously very astute). Why alienate the cultists when there's some likelihood he'll be thrown in jail or drop dead? You can't beat 'em anyway.
I have often felt that anonymous social media accounts should be done away with. I absolutely get the value to marginalized or threatened or repressed people of being able to speak without fear of reprisals. But how does that weigh against the enormous harm done to society by bots and trolls and just assholes who like to asshole without their own fear of reprisals? Does the good outweigh the harm? Is there a way to balance justifiable anonymity with not letting those assholes have completely free rein?
The thing is, anonymity isn't really the problem. The most toxic and hateful stuff was the Facebook-based comments that local newspapers used. People apparently have no qualms about showing their worst selves.
Now, bots != anonymity, because we're all presumably real here, just largely anonymous. And bots are a real problem.
It's a great question. I think less harm would come if people would make it a habit to regard anonymous posts as potentially (or even probably) bullshit until validated through a verified source. Beyond balancing the harm of assholes, bots, and trolls against the value of anonymity to the marginalized and repressed, there are other harms to consider in everyone being forced to make their identity public as a barrier to being able to speak.
I am not a member of the marginalized or repressed class, but my job has a social media policy that is pretty clear about "don't speak for us, and don't do anything online that could make us look bad in anyone's eyes, ever." If I had to use my real name here, for example, then because my ID is easily traceable to my employer, my mere presence here could reflect on them. They might make me choose between being here or on their payroll. It would be no big loss if I disappeared, but there are likely many others in similar situations, and the collective loss would surely be felt.
Good point. One could argue that if an employer was the type that might threaten you for speaking then it’s not a great company to work for, but of course there’s livelihood to consider. As a current minion of Uncle Sam I also know that I’m not completely free to speak my mind on all subjects if it could reflect back on my employer…one reason I’m retiring soon!

I suspect Koch is investing in the "After Trump has died, in prison" era. This next election is a write-off.
Not to give Nikki TOO much credit but maybe somewhere in her (their collective) pea sized brain those that would usually vote GOP are actually growing weary of the party being known for nothing more than slinging mud. Everyone gets dirty and so far none of them are winning over the public.

Dr Santis is getting whupped by a brown woman and it's killing him. You love to see it.
Never before have people fought so hard and so viciously to win second place in a contest where there is no silver medal.
" and $25,000 was spent on ads against President Joe Biden, which is really getting ahead of herself."
Haley's campaign is "over it's skis"....

Unless she really is running for veep
But you don't run for VP this way. She's better off actively campaigning for Trump, opening at his rallies, etc
So the money people have settled on Haley as the "mainstream" Republican nobody except them wants. Understandable when you look at the cavalcade of losers that make up the rest of the candidates. Fuckface is still going to win the nomination.
It’s like watching the NIT games during NCAA March Madness.
Ooh, West Montana State 11-13 is playing UC - Death Valley Park Ranger University 15-14. Who’s gonna win round 3!
Meanwhile Duke is playing Kansas in the real tournament.
At one time decades ago the NIT meant a little bit of prestige since each conference could only send one team to the NCAA, and that only had 16 slots. I remember when the local college won the NIT and the paper ran a cartoon "We're number 65! We're number 65!"
Nearly entirely because college sportsball became a huge $$$$$$$$$ cow.

The other flaw is that if tfg wins, there may not be a 2028 election
Obviously the GOP should have a Hunger Games style competition to choose their nominee.
WOULD WATCH!

I think they're hoping he'll choke on a burnt steak.
Hamberder, FIFY
Lol I usually say hamburder, I just thought I'd try something different.
He'll die of ketchup inhalation
Exactly. They hope the evil vermin Democrats save their fucking bacon and jail the orange nightmare.

when you're as charming as Nikki and Ron, how can voters even make a decision?
Hooker P. Tape is my real name.
But we already knew that.

Does badger mushroom snake count?
Absolutely. While there are things I’m more comfortable saying anonymously I would gladly choose to edit myself to enable a more open intertubes.
