"It's quite possible that you invade us, and quite frankly, there's not much we can do about it- besides arm every woman, man, and child, and train them to use them, and see to it that your occupation costs you a lot more than it costs us. Thank you."

None of this surprises me. Alberta has thought it gets to dictate national economic policy since I was old enough to pay attention, all because of that gloop under the ground.

Albertan, Canadian here. The oil belongs to Canada not Alberta. Smith seems to forget that lil tidbit in her effort to betray Canada.

Danielle Smith is so DUMB. So dumb! And I hate calling anyone, especially a woman dumb! She's an absolute dumdum.

Mexico and Colombia tell Trump to pound sand. Trump is mystified, and can't understand why everyone in the world isn't scared to death of him like US Congress critters are

I don't understand why and how a provincial premier gets to set trade policy for all of Canada. If the federal government decrees retaliatory tariffs, fees, etc., why does that not apply to every province of Canada?

Can we have a Chrystia Freeland, please?

Having grown up in the very close shadow of WWII, at the height of the Cold War, It's difficult to comprehend how all of this can take root in the United States so quickly,. Has nearly everyone forgotten the evils of fascism? Likewise, how did the Russians suddenly become OK guys? Now we have a POTUS , of about my same age, who messages that maybe Hitler had some good ideas and we should be BFFs with the Russians, get out of NATO, and allow Putin carte blanche to resurrect the USSR. Add to it a recent immigrant from South Africa who is going to show us how to run our economy, the idea that we need to have closed borders, they've never been closed in the past, that just because you're born here should not make you a citizen, and that one of the most brutal tyrants in history is a "pretty smart cookie" It's a bit much to swallow. Actually enough to make you vomit.

Why?

Because collectively politicians favour greed over morals.

And Murdoch favoured greed over truth.

And the American people have shown that they don't care enough to actually punish them for those choices.

Its #3 that is particularly disheartening

Yep. I've long harbored a nagging trepidation that the minute the last of those with living memory of the Shoah and the almost unimaginably vast conflagration that was WWII departed the stage, that despite the effort to create a comprehensive record, that it would just blink from the collective conscience. And would all begin again

You can't reiterate this enough, don't turn the ball over in the playoffs.

Yeah, well that quarterback shouldn't even have been allowed back in the game. If you punch the referee, you're ejected.

Flames fans might not be TOO upset if McJesus gets traded, though I suggest something dumber than Florida. Maybe the Islanders?

One word we all need to remember and hold on to, "MIDTERMS". Historically unfavorable to the sitting President, they need to be a total disaster for 47!! He may be riding high for the first two years, but let's make his last TWO a living hell! Remember "IMPEACHMENT"

Reginald Heber was a British poet and hymnist of the late 18th and early 19th century. One hymn he wrote, expressing sentiments with which I have no agreement, "From Greenland's Icy Mountains," came to mind this morning as I read the news. I somewhat rewrote Heber's hymn:

For Greenland’s icy mountains,

The Mighty trump doth call;

He blusters, fumes, and blathers,

He wants to take it all.

The people there, the Inuit,

Will greet the US well,

As giving them their freedom,

From the Danes’ unshirted Hell.

Denmark, a tiny country,

Far, far away they be.

They’ve enslaved the poor Greenlanders

With socialistic glee.

Providing them with healthcare

Which Greenlanders don’t need

And letting natives be the food

On which polar bears do feed.

The Mighty trump will take the land

Of ice and snow and cold

Because he’s mighty, strong and tough

And a man whose ways are bold.

He’ll give the Greenland natives

The lives they all do crave

Like the US aboriginals

Who praise trump from their graves.

There are resources aplenty

Beneath that icy land,

The oil and copper riches,

Wealth to beat the band.

What do the Danes know of it,

They’re pastry-makers all,

ā€œWe are the kings of getting wealth

From Mother Earth’s round ball."

So give up, you Greenlanders,

You Danes? Just let him be.

He dreams of empire building

And of Manifest Destiny.

And when the Mighty trump is through—

He’ll forget you in a week--

He’ll be lusting hard for Panama,

Then Canada he’ll seek.

I had conveniently forgotten the words to the original but just looked them up. Geez.
