JD Vance blaming Border Tsar Harris for having 325,000 missing kids in the BTH Immigration System (tm), when Trump is the one that put all those missing kids in there to begin with was Epic! JD is an Olympian at lying, that's your Ivy League education at its finest right there!

One weird thing (of many) from last night was how J Divan was acting like the vice president was the most powerful person on Earth, with the power to bend reality with her mind.

I will say what I tell my kids. There is no 'War On Drugs'. There is only a lopsided war on 'People Who Take Drugs'.

Specifically, poor people who take drugs. Masters of the Universe on Wall Street never have to worry about the 8-ball in their pocket being found during a “random” stop and frisk.

I learned of a local gal I've known for years getting popped with some meth recently, (ugh, a family curse) cute blonde gal, so while minorities are more affected by the war on drugs, and it's often employed as a tool of white supremacy, little Suzy isn't safe just because she's a white girl. So people that support the "war on drugs" because it will make life dis-proportionally harder for minorities might find themselves at the wrong place and the wrong time and learn firsthand how dumb it is.

Why didn't Walz ask about his sponsor Peter Theil? That's a guy who has some innovative ideas about who should be taking drugs. A whole drug enhanced Olympics? He's on it. Psychedelics for everyone? Yep. A floating city with no FDA tyranny? He's a happy sailor! Drugs for me, but not for thee.

Either Vance lived in a world where actual facts were irrelevant and Harris had been a monarch with unchecked power for the last 1400 days. Otherwise, we watched a puffy dude in too much eyeliner make stuff up.

We can assume that people running drug cartels are not stupid people. We can assume that they have sophisticated networks pushing large quantities of their supplies and/or drugs over the border in trucks and planes, trains, and automobiles.

It seems outlandish to assume that they give some campesino a bag of drugs or supplies to haul over the border (and maybe get caught) and deliver it to some contact in the states (or maybe not). That's way more risky.

NYT (gift link) article, reinforces my point

In reality, the largest known group of fentanyl smugglers is not made up of immigrants traversing the desert or moving through secret tunnels — they are Americans coming through legal ports of entry.

It's not about moving the drugs. It is finding people wealthy enough to afford them. I could smuggle a tonne of smack into say .... Burundi. In bags clearly marked 'Heroin'.

It is gonna be worth my bother? Thae average monthly income there is $19 USD a month. even if I got everyone hooked on it, I'd still be owing money to my suppliers.

The US is full of bored, rich stupid people who don't give a fuck for rules or laws. You could easy get hundreds of thousands of dollars out of them. That pays for a lot of legal assistance. That is a ROI worth pursuing.

We're just not allowed to be successful at anything, because what if Democrats do something good. It's so discouraging. Like, just tell the American people we're gonna make it! We need to know that!

I love the framing of this post too because it also highlights the great things the admin is doing. I didn't even know that about the meeting with Biden and Xi Jinping. That's that good, quiet work that is the opposite picture of the demagoguery.

Facts and figures, of course, don't trump the feelings of the cultists. If the cult leaders tell them everything is bad and on fire, then damn it, those feelings trump the facts!

Vance's relentless exploitation of his mom's addiction history (or her recovery, when the situation benefits, as at the RNC) smacks of pimping in its cynical opportunism. We don't *need* to understand the source of his roiling misogyny, but he insists on blasting it out at top volume.

Indeed his whole origin story seems (I will not pay to read Hillbilly Elegy so I'm talking out of my ass here maybe, admittedly) to be exploitative of the misery of family, friends, and socio-economic class. If I were a hillbilly (rather than just hillbilly-adjacent, from the Virginia Piedmont, as I am) I'd be damned if I'd vote for this traitor-to-his-people motherfucker. But of course they will.

They were cool enough to secede from Virginia when Virginia seceded from the Union, and that's the last good decision they've made.
