if I misread your article I apologize but yes, you should have made your voice heard...at that moment... but you didn't for whatever reason ? ....I suppose you writing about it now in some way helps you ease your guilty feelings that you could have tried to help someone in need and did not....do you feel better now ? ....seems to me you acted in the same way as the postal lady at the counter that turned the couple away.
There are few experiences worse than retroactively realizing that you had an opportunity to do a good thing, a courageous thing, and missed it. I have a few that can still keep me up nights.
I am seeing an escalation all over the internet of grumblings about sending monies to the Ukraine. Stupid stupidheads. That is like complaining that the little boy with his finger stuck in the dike is thirsty and would like a glass of water please because he has been standing there for almost two years.
If that country crumbles, there will be a lot more families looking for lines to stand in to get paperwork for babies, and a lot more people heading to borders on foot carrying children and pets, not just in the Ukraine, but in increasing waves of countries in Europe, and that in turn will empower salivating wannabe dictators across the globe.
And--that's all the Christmas cheer I have to spread at the moment.
An escalation, or is Poo Tin getting more desperate? He certainly isn't getting any closer to Kiev, and his army is looking distinctly tattered. And he must have lost a great deal of face when Ukraine wiped out one of his lieutenant-generals with a bomb on a parked bike.
Oh, I believe there is a fair a bit of professional shit stirring going on in the background, but there are so many people whose buttons are easy to push, because those people sewed them on in the first place.
I see you and wish for us all that we all will do better when faced with that moment. I’m sending you hugs for being human, for knowing that you need to do better, and for promising to do better. <hugs> We all need to do better, and I promise to do so, too. And also you’re awesome and amazeballs. :-)
This is a good reminder, we all need to keep our eyes open in the coming year. It's far too easy not to notice the most vulnerable around us or take action -- not being preachy, just a statement of human nature. I've missed this same boat at times that I've looked back and thought, shit I could've done something more there.
FWIW- in my experience, passport related bureaucracy is the most bureaucratic of all bureaucracies. I think they are 100% trained to 100% follow 100% of the rules 100% of the time.
It’s the saddest Christmas story I’ve ever read. I’m trans and I worry, even though they can’t take away my operation they can sure take away me and anyone else that doesn’t like them and that they don’t like.
Fuck these fuckheads!! I am sick to death of people bleating about the cost of a carton of eggs a loaf of bread. I’m tired of Maga and it’s misanthropic group of assholes from the president elect and Elon Musk right on down to the lowest Idiot with a red hat on the totem pole.
I know that human beings are not monsters, but the Trump lot are certainly trying to reach that self-exalted territory! All 64 million of them need to burn in hell. And their preachers need to be the first lot in with Trump and Musk.
Basic human decency in this KKKountry is dead for at least a generation as the majority of voting white trash have ejected positive values and replaced them with racist hatred, lies, cruelty, sadism, insanity, stupidity, and incompetence.
The only thing the rest of us can do is be good to each other.
I had just subscribed- and still in my phone, now read this one. Well done ! Great storytelling! And like all great story telling, the message goes straight to our hearts snd brains at same time. Thanks for your HONESTY. Me, too, have been in situations where I wished later.... now I will . ❤️
Ouch! There's a mis-step that will linger in your heart for the rest of your life. We all have them. The key is to not let your head forget what your heart knows.
Along the same lines, Mr. Dorothea had an appointment with Customs on Christmas Eve in Portland, Oregon to get fingerprinted for his residency application in Canada. Got up at 6am and drove 2 1/2 hours and when he arrived, the office was closed. He was in line with a bunch of other people who had appointments. They just decided not to open that day. It was shit! Hopefully, Canada will adjust their timeline to accommodate him.
As a long-ago USPS letter carrier, I sympathize with you and with the post office ladies both. They might be privatized out of their jobs pretty soon, which is a just terrible idea.
All that would have happened if you’d raised a fuss would have been a citation for creating a disturbance.
We had our chance to do something about making things better last month. Unfortunately, we failed to rise to the challenge.

Oh Rebecca, thank you for caring about these babies and their families.

You are our Nobel Queen....but don't beat yourself up too much...you do more good helping us than could ever be repaid.
That is all.

I had no idea that color photographs of the Nativity existed! WTF is up with all those Medieval and Renaissance paintings?

Deeply moving and intriguing life. Thanks for the article. A class act and heroic.
Well, shit.

very much so, in my experience.

We love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
