You are so right about that.

As a child , they'll listen to your trials and tribulations, as an adult , your heart aches , heartbreaks, and general life woes.

They needn't speak. Yet they understand.

I am so sorry. I'm not familiar with either you or Tater, but I'm familiar with losing pets who have been my faithful companions. Several months ago I had to say goodbye to Xiong Mao, a 17-year-old cat who lived with us since he was rescued from a storm drain at the age of 6 weeks. Even those who don't know you are holding you in our hearts today.

Thanks. I have lived in my house 37 years, and the yard has become a burial ground for 5 dogs and 15 cats. Every one had a distinct personality, I grieved for them all, and I still miss every single one. May you find some comfort in the coming days, and know you're among people who understand that it's natural and human to grieve for an animal friend.

I don’t know how I would’ve made it through losing Cordelia without the support I found here. Easter weekend, 2020. Couldn’t go into the clinic with her so I had to pass her through the window, my car in the parking lot, not knowing that would be the last time I’d see her. Still hurts.

We get it.

Oy vey. It's been a tumultuous week, with more to come next week. And I think I pulled my flexor hip muscles on my right (dominant) side. Do not recommend. I'm icing it and trying to use my left side more. I'm staying safe and making sure I'm resting it, too.

But honestly, I've been through worse. Our motel room is set up nicely, everything seems to be going smoothly with the paperwork, Farrah is camping out over at Menotsure's and loving it, and our son's made it safely to Albuquerque. So I'm not complaining. I'll be very happy when it's done, though! Thanks for checking in, love!

Mrs. Paxton divorcing Mr. Paxton on biblical grounds. The National Republican Senate Committee releases a statement saying they are disgusted and repulsed.

They say the one thing that can totally derail a politician's career is a dead girl or a live boy in their bed.

We know the Republican Party doesn't give a flying fuck about dead girls.

Dear Gov. Abbott: It's called "root cause analysis" you deflecting a-hole! Losing teams ask the question so that they can figure out what went wrong and fix it. If you're trying to pass off what happened last week as the results of championship teamwork, people aren't buying it!!

I hope your particular road to Hell is covered in deep, soft sand.

Edit: Mixed up two Texas a-holes: Abbott and Paxton

I grew up in Texas. The dozens of camps in the Kerrville area are where Texans have sent their kids for generations. They're a kind of sacred ground for people in the state. There was a time that, if public officials had been this reckless with the lives of Texans' children, people wouldn't have waited for lawsuits to make their way through the courts.

But I knew something had changed about the people when I saw how Texans gave a pass to Ted Cruz. Time was, if some politician accused your father of killing JFK and said your wife was ugly, as Donald Trump did to Ted, you'd have been judged as something less than a real Texan if you didn't respond by whipping that politician's ass, or getting your own ass whipped while trying. But Ted just snuggled up to Trump like a puppy. I still have a lot of family there who don't deserve the regime they have to live under, but in the main Texas is getting the disasters it voted for.

"GOD DAMN THEM TO HELL. They are banning immigrant children from fucking Head Start."

This is LITERALLY the very same shit that flipped California from generally Red to reliably Blue back in the nineties. Proposition 187 barring undocumented from state services did pass, but the voters almost immediately regretted it. (That's actually kind of a feature of our initiative process).

Conventional wisdom is that Hispanics both flipped and organized following 187's passage, a neat explanation that's certainly supportive of White Replacement theories. The reality is messy and complicated, consensus about what imeans is nonexistent, and supports what someone who bases opinion on what they can observe rather than what pundits say feels in their guts: opinions about immigration changed rapidly across the board, with bigotry taking a big hit. The same thing happened with Proposition 8, banning gay marriage. That also won, but it burned out the core of bigotry that supported it in the process.

I like to think that California is special that way, but is it? The only thing that's truly different about California is that we're a sort of super-America, tomorrow's America today.

I'm so tired of all the sales come-ons, masquerading as 'do this/buy this/here's how it'll [make your life perfect].' Imagine if so much energy were spent on actually making lives better. And the crap has become so blatant, so ubiquitous, that it feels like one big, continuous slap in the face. 'Human? Pffft. You don't matter; it's all about your money.'

“Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is going to profit off privatizing the National Weather Service because obviously”.

I remember reading about this (privatizing the NWS, or at least NOAA) in Michael Lewis’s “The Fifth Risk”, written during the first TRump shitshow. AccuWeather lobbied (and keeps lobbying) Congress to allow AccuWeather to monitize weather reporting using data gathered by NOAA. TRump 1.0’s pick for the head of NOAA was Barry Myers, whos brother Joel runs AccuWeather (source: CNN article “Trump’s pick to lead NOAA pushed for privatizing weather data”, Oct 14, 2017, https://www.cnn.com/2017/10/14/politics/noaa-nominee-accuweather/index.html).
