Ta, Dok. Oh, Kathy. My nightmare is she's primaried by Her Awesomeness Letitia James, who wins the primary, only to lose the general to the next iteration of George Pataki (because there is no shortage of racism in NY, especially upstate). NYC suffers whenever we have a Republican governor. May this nightmare never see the light of day.

That said, NY public transit really needs money for infrastructure, and the people who travel by train and bus cannot pay for it. We need a billionaires' tax.

New York - where the corruption never stops.

I've only been to NYC one time, and I never touched the ground. I was passing through on I-95 in my semi. It was an unpleasant experience, but then it's unpleasant to drive a semi in any other city, too. I don't really have an opinion on congestion pricing, but I do know that any such fees eventually hurt the ones that can least afford it.

“And who knows — if it’s brilliant five-dimensional chess, New York Dems take GOP-held seats, and Hochul ends the “pause” on congestion pricing not long after, that would be nice, but it sounds a bit like whistling past the tailpipe emissions.”

Nah, I always assume a Democrat will to the stupidest thing possible, it’s easier that way.

I can't make this make sense😕

Couldn't she have just created a voucher or pass system for public employees and left the fee in place for everyone else? She picked the laziest option.

Also, fuck this stubborn defense of commercial real estate. It would be the best thing in the world for all of us if MORE jobs were remote and commercial real estate had to be remodelled/redeveloped into housing and mixed use developments.

It's stupid for us to keep caring more about rich people's investment portfolios than the very necessary & obvious actions that need to be taken to adapt to the modern world's numerous pending crises.

I decided not to vote for her again after she sent the National Guard into the subway based on hysterical reports of crime in the subway. The crime numbers were stable and troopers with long guns don't really help. Now I only regret that I have but one vote to definitely not give to Kathy "suck-my-exhaust" Hochul.

A big "Sod off!" to Hochul, Jay Jacobs, and all the Coumo faux-Dems running the party in NY.

I’m in NYC this weekend, and my brother has been on the phone several times, telling several people’s phone-answerers that he opposes this stupid idea.

I traveled through Singapore a few times back in the early 80s, and they already had congestion pricing for a good portion of the business district - altho' it was for limited hours of the day ( say, like 9 to 5, altho' I don't remember the exact times ).

Am i missing something with the NYC plan, 'cause I don't see hours of operation reported for that plan. Are they actually going to enforce these extra tolls 24 hours a day?

It already costs $15 to enter Manhattan. This is an additional $15 on top of existing tolls. Bloomberg doubled the tolls into Manhattan when he was mayor, from $6 to $12, and it had a minimal impact.

Second, mass transit during rush hour is heavily used. Mass transit capacity needs to be increased to seriously reduce motor vehicle traffic.

Third, the proposal makes no attempt to coordinate with New Jersey and Connecticut which have people commuting to Manhattan.

To retake the House, Democrats need to flip two metro NYC districts Republicans flipped in 2022. One in Long Island and one in counties just north of NYC.

The issue can be revisited after the election.

She's worried about the effect this will have on poor people. Apparently she doesn't realize that poor people are not driving into Manhattan.

Idk, I’ve seen the Supreme Court discuss whether “shall” really means “shall” before.
