A lot of the City's poorest families use library computers & wifi for things like school applications, benefits applications & virtual appearances before agencies and (until recently) the courts. The knock on effects of cutting library budgets will hurt them a great deal.
every friggin morning when i head to my local deli for a bagel, there's inevitably a cop car parked along the street... and the occupants aren't out walking the sidewalk or talking to residents... nope, they're playing on their iphones.
FWIW< , many of us very white ladies age very very fast, especially we who don't eat. She and I are near the same age and while I look younger, I'm also fatter and the fat helps. Otherwise, I'm seeing a pretty standard skinny 50-year-old white lady here. The aging accelerates a lot in the the late 40s/early 50s. I could be mistaken for being in my 30s until last year, and now I'm def. old.
I think this is moderate Republican libelz, at least from the vantage point of Los Angeles. The last one of those we had, Riordan, was really good for the library. Adams is just an ass. NY already doesn't pay a living wage at its libraries, so this is terrible.
The checkout clerk at the suburban library that I went to when the local branch got unusable was an absolute shit to me about it, too, which seemed out of character for librarians tbh. (That library still has the rudest staff of any library I've ever used. I seldom go now bc they make the experience so unpleasant)
Why doesn't this city have a dedicated library tax independent of the general budget? Most smaller municipalities contain one or more taxing districts especially for this purpose. Establishing the district usually results in 90-plus percent voter approval.
Depends how you define "services." Services managed by and staffed by the library itself, no. But extras provided through outsourcing? We'll see. (Like I said, we went through this in Chicago)
Q: What's the difference between Florida and New York?A: In Florida the libraries are open but the shelves are empty and in New York the shelves are full but the libraries are closed.

How many more years left in this asshole's reign?

We already know he's a Liar For Jesus; I guess he's a book banner too. They often go hand in hand.

Cop looking out for cops

The liberal part of NYC didn't elect him.

Chris Griffin: “Dad, what’s a library?”Peter Griffin: “It’s a place where homeless people use the bathroom to go BM”
